iya Ibeji Series - The Hard Way

Its been raining cats and elephants recently and this season usually brings with it cold, cough and catarrh .

My children's nose were running so I bought the white and orange colored vitamin C. As I was about to give them the orange one my friend interrupted.

FRIEND : Iya give them the white one.
IYA BEJI : (I got curious) Why the white one?
FRIEND : It works better.
Iya BEJI : And how do you know that? Is it because its bitter?

She nodded and we laughed. I can't help but think why we Africans like things the hard, bitter and painful way.
Let me cite some examples:
If you have a sore or bump we use hot water to press it, in the western world they use ice.

When you are pregnant on top the hot sun they will still say don't drink cold water. Them for kukuma say make we dey drink hot water to fry the pickin for belle.

My friend gave birth in the US via CS and immediately she was given ice to chew, CS o. While for here, they will say no cold water allowed until God knows when. I know this because na CS I take born. Then them go say they drink hot water to remove bad blood.

What about when we want to drink Agbo(herbal drinks) No seriously have you drank a sweet agbo before? E no dey, Our belief is if e no bitter e no go work.

Ever been to a civil service office before?
Immigration office for international passport?
What about when you are made next of kin and the person dies, to claim benefits (Lord have mercy that one a story for another day)

If them no stress your life them never start.
I ask again why do we believe if we don't get it the hard, bitter or painful way it will not work or it won't be appreciated.

Make I stop here...

  1. Personally, I don't like bitter things and God knows that I don't take bitter things too. I have never tested positive to sugar before because in life, you should take things in a moderate way. Excess of anything is bad.

  2. How about simply going to the bank to withdraw YOUR own money?
You will be begging them as if you are asking for alms. Yes Nigerian banks.
Mercy is not written in the average Nigerian psyche. Even when you meet them in the so called western countries. The moment they learn that you are a Nigerian, you become an object of insult.

  3. Reason why we're still where we are. We no wan learn.

I chew ice cubes A lot and different people have told me how it's not good but no one has told me the side effect. Someone even told me to always drink warm water after eating so it can melt the fat. 😂😂😂😂

    1. That's how one woman saw me drinking very cold water in the saloon and told me I'm lucky I'm slim. But I should watch the cold water intake as it makes someone fat and makes tummy big. This was before I took in for my baby
