Mama Tee Series - Money Washers

Fraudsters have always been around but their stories are very rampant these days probably because of social media.

I've had some encounters with them but today, I will share the one I had with money washers.

On this beautiful evening over ten years ago, I had strolled out into the street to get some groceries when this tall and dark man approached me. He asked for directions to any store where they sell computers. He went on to tell me that he brought in some computers and gold jewellery from Benin Republic and he didn't know anywhere in the state where he could sell them, he told me he would reward me with a gold necklace if I helped him.

I directed him to some stores around but I told him to check them the following day as they would have closed for the day, it was almost 7pm. He then pleaded with me to follow him to the place where he kept his goods so he would give me either a computer system or gold jewellery. I stupidly followed him. 'Longer throat' issa bad something hahahahaha

Don't blame me too much, I was a jobless graduate, a gift like that would have paid some bills.

We walked almost a kilometre and then stopped in front of a house, two men met us outside and he asked them how much they had raised, they both mentioned 30k and 49k. I was confused. He now told me that what he actually wanted me to see was a box he brought along with the goods. It belonged to his late uncle who worked for the central bank in Benin Republic before his death.

In the box were 3million naira worth of #500 notes. He said the naira notes were coated with a dark coloured substance that could only be cleaned by washing it in a special chemical and the chemical was only available in the teaching hospital in the state but very expensive. He then dropped the bombshell that we would need up to 250k to buy enough for the 3million naira notes and we would share the money according to each person's contribution after washing them.

One of them brought out the box, they opened it and I saw papers the size of our bank notes filled the box. He brought out four of the papers, pulled out a 'sample' of the special chemical from his pocket and poured it in a small plate, added little water and then washed the notes, they transformed into crispy #500 notes. He gave me one to check for authenticity, I checked and it was original lols.

He then asked me to bring any money I had on me, he also asked others to do same. I gave him the money for groceries I had with me (2k), he asked where I worked and I told him I was a jobless graduate. He now said I should go and bring all my savings, I told him I did not have any money anywhere. He said I should go and borrow, sell my things including my parent's stuff and make sure I raise a substantial amount. The two guys said they had to get to an ATM and withdraw the monies some relatives just sent in.

As we were leaving, he told us we had to swear an oath of secrecy. None of us would disclose to anyone what we were about to do because we needed to protect the money box. Hahahahahahahaha

He collected the four #500 notes that he had washed, put them on the ground and recited some incantations.
He then gave one to each of us and made us swear not to betray the gang or we die. I became scared but I couldn't back out, 3million naira was singing in my head. Lol.
Well, I did all and then I left to look for more money.

I called friends and relatives and told them I needed to borrow money urgently for an important business. They asked me about the nature of the business but I told them I would let them know after the business had been done. My brother wanted to give me some money but insisted I had to tell him what the business was.

Two of my distant relatives too warned me to be wary of fraudsters who would make me swear a fake oath of secrecy and strip me of every kobo including other people's monies.

All this while, the gang leader was calling me every minute to ask how much I had gathered, he had seen a 'mugu' hahahahaha.

After thinking for a while, I concluded it was a scam considering the way he was calling persistently, the body language of the other two guys, the way he tricked me to their hideout using computers and gold, etc. When he called again, I told him I was no longer interested. He screamed and warned me about the oath. I told him not to worry about me. He called again around 10pm and threatened me, I warned him to stay off me before I report him. He stopped calling.

That night, I was scared of falling asleep, I thought I would die for backing out. I prayed and even called my mum to pray for me. Hahahahaha

I later fell asleep. Woke up the next morning and blocked the man's number. That was how I escaped from them.

Chai! Thank God I came out complete, I could have been raped, maimed or even used for rituals. Talk of ojukokoro, anya ukwu. I wanted to reap where I did not sow.

For years, I couldn't share the story with anyone for fear of the 'oath' killing me (hahahahahahahaa) until years later when someone shared a similar story.

Dear bvs, anyone with a similar story?

Mama Tee

*My story is EXACTLY LIKE YOURS...The only difference was that they didnt get cash off me but they got my Jewelries.....
I went to drop off some cash i had gathered and et them arguing, gradually the argument became a big fight with people gathering and i kept hearing ''you are wicked, let the lady return to school and look for someone else''.
Found out it was me that they were fighting over cos of them liked me and didnt want me scammed. The fight was so big the Police became involved,i just faded into the background and RAN.

  3. A friend narrated same experience her younger sister had. Exactly like yours so no need to type all over. She came home and started ransacking her sister's bags in search of money and when asked what she was looking for, she couldn't talk. Meanwhile they were calling her every hour to know how much she had gathered. Her sister (my friend) sha observed she was always answering her phone at intervals and looking scared. So it was at that point her sister slapped sense into her then it was like she came back to herself and began explaining what happened.

That slap was all it took.

The next time they called her number, her sister picked the call and gave them the warning of their lives not to call back. That's how she escaped.

Nice, respectful, humble girl unlike her. So the Anty knew something is amiss somewhere n held her in one room. The charm faded away after sometimes. Very long story.

  11. My friend was going for her GCE exam when she met them, she followed them oooh and they told her to go and get money from where her Mum keeps money(fortunately), Her Mum took out the money from there that morning on impulse according to her), she went back and told them, they told her to bring jewelries, she went and packed her Mum's jewelries and gave them, they told her to bring more money and do the oath thing, they also told her to get 4 eggs, tie them together and put them in the dustbin.... I went to her place, knocked tire she no answer but I was seeing her sitting down from the window, I called her name ,she didn't answer, I kept knocking, she didn't stand up to open the door, I went to call some of our male neighbours and they were able to break the door... She just sat crossed-leggged looking at us, I was asking her question, she did not answer, I shook her, she was just staring into thin air..... I just landed her one better, hot slap, she jolted and started crying that I've put her in trouble, I asked her how ?? And she said they told her not to talk till 4pm.... I gave her another slap and she started talking oooh, talked about how she tied 4eggs and threw away and how she was going to die bla bla bla bla .... As she was talking, I took the eggs, washed and boiled it, cooked noodles and ate while waiting for her Mum to come back and hear the sad story!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

She ended up missing her GCE exam and till date, I still tease her with it and oh, they were calling her like fools 😂😂😂😂

driver:na u get the load for boot?

MrA:driver no vex,my oga die for night,i from kano, everybody carry wetin e fit carry run comot,na wetin i carry be dat bt d thing b say juju dey ontop d money,if i touch d money e dey fling me comot
Driver:the thing be say all of us go share d money, abi passengers na lie?
MrB:na true ooo*turned to me* sister u no support?ibu onye'igbo?dis is ow we can help ourselves oo(in ogbo)
Driver:mk i carry una go one of my prophet side mk e pray for d money
Off he drove, till date I can't locate the place we went, all this while I was quiet ooo but in my mind I was doing some calculations hehehehe;we got to the prophet's,he saw us and started praying. What i failed to realise was that i was the only one he concentrated on.told me how i was a star and how i am to liberate my family etc.
Then uncle prophet said we needed an oil to use in burning the juju and it will cost N120,000(this was in 2007) and asked me how much I had, told them i didn't have any money as i was just out of secondary school and awaiting admission into Uniben;they said i should tell my people i wanted to buy clothes or shoes or anything, replied that i dont buy those things myself and it wont start then;they said since i was going to see my aunt in school i should tell her anything to make her give me money. At that point i knew i wasnt coming back but then they put spirit of fear in me that i must not tell anyone what happened and i must be there when the juju will be burnt since i saw it else my womb will be destroyed.

Omo i ran to my aunt begging her for money ooo,she refused on the grounds that she must know what i need the money for(i just remembered Teejay's comment asking if it's compulsory to know why someone is asking for money;yes my dear it is as that was what saved me)
A male friend of hers came and after much cajoling i agreed to tell them) she made fun of me wella that i agreed to tell a man not her lol..........it happened to be that she knew what was up,as i said my first sentence she finished the story for me hahahahaahahahahaha and gave her own story but in her case as a baddo that she is,she told them to share the money immediately and go for prayers on their own as her sister is a pastor haahahahahha

Long writeup i know....una pele ooooo

  14. my own was not in naija but london here.
That was the day i hailed white people. before that i used to think only naija do scam so I used to ignore all those emails about Prince and inheritance. These people called my land line and told me my number had been randomly selected to win a discounted trip for four to Disney world including flight and hotel. Me that never planned to go i said Disney world no p. So i said let me hang up and call my sisters cos i wanted to tell them so we would all go together. They now told me if i hung up the price will automatically go to the next phone number as it was a like a raffle draw. They said i needed to pay £150 pounds and in 3 working days the pack and tickets will be posted to my house. the guy even said i should google their website and gave me the site address the thing really loaded.

so i called my cousin on my cell, she was like shes not sure oh that maybe its a scam but i was already sold i told her i will call her back. thats how i gave the guy card number and pin at the back of the card. As a student my pocket money was like £300 per month all i had was £150 i gave the guy.
i was even telling the guy that if its a scam im a nigerian and i will use jazz for him. YINMU im sure the guy was just laughing in his mind!!! after i paid and hung up, i had a bad feeling so i googled the company and wrote scam. come and see posts!! i almost died

that was the day i hailed oyimbo people. as in there was office noise in the background self. SMH thank God for my bank fraud department that gave me the money back. safe to say 3 days later nothing came in the post... and they already had my adress. im sure thats the beginning of the format for another mail scam...
