Veteran Musician Sunny Neji Says His Hit Songs Didn’t Get Enough Accolades

Sunny Neji who has been off the music scene for a while and in a recent interview has said that though his songs were successful, they didn’t get the accolades they deserved

“Some of my greatest songs did not get the kind of reaction I expected. Oruka and Mr Fantastic can be considered to be some of my most successful songs. Some of my deep materials have not received so much accolade; maybe because they didn’t get the kind of promotion the other ones got”

The gifted singer however acknowledged the need for him to be more active on social media to make his songs more prominent.

“I am not really an extrovert, God created us to be different to create a balance, I am not active on social media, but I know I need to work on it because that is where everything is happening now.”

Sunny Neji, also explained his reason for being off the music scene for a while.
“I am trying to reinvent a direction, I am thinking deeper now before I write songs. I am trying to redefine a more inspirational path before I write my songs. If you want to connect with people at that level, it has to do with more thinking.”

  2. You better go into Gospel music if you're thinking deep for your songs. Most Nigerian youths are not ready for anything deep. It's either you Shaku Shaku or you Parku Parku go one side. Lol...

  4. Oruka got all the accolades it deserved. It was played in almost all weddings back in the days.๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ

I rocked Tolotolo and Idemnobno. I even learnt that Efik traditional dance step for Idemnobno. I was obsessed with it Infact
The issue with the Nigerian music industry is that the richer you appear to be, the more Nigerian youths listen to your music no matter how it is... Most of them don’t rven know Jonny Drille. See Duncan mighty for instance, just cos of the Fake Love collabo, everyone has realised he has mad lyrics.

    1. Very true! Johnny Drille isn't getting the attention he deserves to me and somehow I think this has more to do with his personality being the introvert that he is.

  6. No need living in the past Uncle.Your songs were great. But nothing lasts forever. Get more active on social media, record a hit collabo, make it groovy. You'll be fine after that, trust me.

  9. Just this Evening I was telling my freind that Sunny Neji is a legend, I know not a word In Idemnobno but whenever I listen to the song I get goosebumps it's such a great song not a word of English in it yet it just resonants, Yes I agree he did not get the accolades he deserves and I think it's Becos there wasn't as much of a social media buzz then as there is now, Rather than making new pieces I think he could do a remake of these songs especially the ones which dint get as much airtime.
