Emmanuel Ifeajuna was the 1st black African to win gold in an international sports event when he won at the 1954 British Empire and C/wealth Games in Vancouver.





 
He was sentenced to death by firing squad for treason.

  3. I read that Nigeria has refused to acknowledge that feat after his role in the war. Even his children were/are said to have changed their last name because of the negative response of people. Really sad. Meanwhile, the main actors in the war were pardoned. In this life eh, choose your battles and pick your wars.
