I slept off and had nightmares, physically I was out of prison but my mind kept replaying each scenario; I saw myself been choked and raped, been drenched in Petrol, the slaps and kicks kept torturing my dreams. I woke up and saw my 2 roommates crying, they couldn't sleep because I kept screaming and shouting in my sleep.

My body was massaged with hot water and Rob but they were both surprised I didn't feel any pain, I couldn't feel any physical pain at all. Hatred, anger and rage took over my life, I hated myself and everything that surrounded me. My friends got me anti-biotics because I refused to go to hospital for check up. I followed them to show my appreciation to the Jagaban that facilitated my release, it was a new dawn for me and a welcome back party was thrown for me the following Friday.

I drank alcohol and smoked lots of cigarette that day, I wanted to forget everything and just live for the moment, my friends became worried and threatened to call my mum, during the party, one of the men that showed interest in me was there, I accepted his proposal at that point to the surprise of my friends, I agreed to date and move in with him at that.

My nightmares continued and I started to use Diazepam 5mg to aid sleep, this drug comes with prescription but it wasn't hard to get . My nightmares continued and I could only sleep with the aid of drug or alcohol, I became a total opposite of what I wanted to be.

I decided to resume work after a week rest, I told my roommates and Libyan boyfriend, they all protested but I called some Arab families and I got four feedbacks due to my ability to speak Arab, I decided to do Emshiji; live-out maid, I worked with the four families; I assigned a day of the week to each family, it was extremely stressful but I need the cash and I wanted no break.

After about a month, my Bestie asked if I was pregnant, I told her Yes, she asked if I was keeping it or if I wanted an abortion, abortion in Libya is illegal, so it was definitely not an option, she promised to go to Africa market the following week and get some herbs for me. I felt relieved for a while and was looking forward to getting rid of my first seed, I started eating well again and was gradually cutting down on my sleeping drugs, we were becoming happy again until the day my friends/roommates went to Gargaresh to get me my herbs.

The worst finally happened and my Sanity went down the drain.....

After about 4 hours, I called my roommates, the phones were ringing but no one picked, I kept trying and trying because I felt something was wrong; Going to Gargaresh doesn't take two hours and they have spent more than 5 hours without picking, I started calling all Nigerians in Libya on my contact list and I also informed my neighbours, I was having panic attack so I took Diazepam and dozed off, I woke up around 8pm and they weren't back; I kept screaming because the picture of what they will be subjected to was playing in my head, I remembered the first day I was kidnapped, I remembered how I was threatened to open my phone, how I was brutally stabbed, my entire body soaked in Petrol and the peppery sensation it gave my eyes, the rape, torture and I just couldn't control my emotions.

My Libyan boyfriend sent Taxi to come pick me because I couldn't sleep alone, I took more diazepam and slept off.

I woke up the following day and tried the numbers again, it was picked by a Nigerien, he told me to bring 1000 dinar to bail out my friends and if I should inform the police, he would kill them, I informed my boyfriend and he was totally against it, he said we should we inform the Police, I told him okay and left for my house to arrange the money.

When I got home, I informed my neighbours of the development, I quickly arranged 1000 dinars and went to see my roommate's Sister, she kept crying and we began search for who to deliver the ransom, no one volunteered and I agreed to go because I was familiar with the state capital and I could speak Arab.

The Taxi man we called arrived and we explained everything to him, I called the Kidnapper and they described the place location to him, after the call he told us they weren't Arabs, I smiled and told him I knew, from their accent it was obvious they were blacks.

We left for the kidnappers den after handing over the money to the Taxi driver, he was to oversee the exchange and mine was just to confirm if they were my roommates or not, I dropped my Samsung phone at home and left with a small Nokia and 20dinars to get airtime and water on the way.

We got to Kubri Shainat around noon and called the kidnappers, my taxi man spoke with them and they told us to wait, he was ready for them, since they were black he promised to handle them and get them arrested, we stood there and waited for almost an hour, we kept calling and calling them, Just when I was about to tell the taximan to make a U-turn and return home; Two tinted cars arrived, Arab men came down from the cars with weapons. The first scenario played in my head again.

We were expecting black kidnappers, how on earth are Arabs here? I asked no one.....

  6. To be honest your story provoke a lot of emotions .But I believe very strongly you could get justice for yourself and those still trapped all you need do is contact United nation office. People reading your stories will just sympathise with you but darling it will not give you the closure you need . The only thing I think can help you is seeking justice which is very possible and help people who are stuck and also exposing people who are still busy recruiting the vulnerable. Let me also use this medium to tell people Arab country is a no no for black people they are very racist and also very wicked and they no our government will never fight for our justice because they are weak. A lot of Nigerian are still hole up in Saudi,Oman etc being ferry their by traffickers under fake promises. You need to love yourself more and stop falling for wicked Nigerians who are hell bent in selling their fellow Country men for money. May you have the closure you genuinely desire.

Baby girl. I wish I can wrap you in a warm embrace and tell you it’s all a dream. I wish I can help in taking aware the pains.

    5. Abeg make una yansh down...on the contrary..poster you had better thank God you came out alive....remain in your country and do something legit with your life....how convenient is it that all your friends are prostitute and all you do is the job of a maid.

I empathize with you but I am not sympathetic. You dont go to another mans country ilegally perpetuate atrocities and expect a tap on the back.

Dear poster, Libya and their fellow Arabian atrocities to non natives didn't start today. If you went there legally this wont be your story. You went through all these because majorly you were an illegal immigrant and thus they could prey on you and the rest.

All the stories from Libyan returnees are tales from those who went illegally. That's a fuckin pattern. When you get there illegally you can't get meaningful jobs hence all these maids stuff and prostitution or even drug peddling.
We all should remember there are consequences for choice taken and our actions.
Agreed you or no one else deserve to be raped or molested nor tortured sorry my dear in this case you knowingly put your self in harm's way when you embarked on that journey and entered illegally. That doesn't mean you should be tortured but those are some of the extras by taking that choice and journeying into a country that molested those who get in illegally.

You knew you could pass through this and yet you went. Please stop the pity song of I didn't know because j saw nice pics on Facebook. With this your write up that's well crafted and deserves to have a book cover you are no fool.. you knew what you may encounter if you took that risk and yet you still went.. even when your initial house mistress was leaving you stayed back.

Its a nice read ,I give that to you. That said we all need to live with consequences of our choices made . I empathize with you but sorry I have no sympathy.
I will rather sympathize with the ladies who are going about their daily activities legitly that get raped and tortured than someone who knowingly puts themselves in harmsway. I gat no sympathy to waste.

If you all dont know the difference between sympathy and empathy..Google is tour friend ,put more use to your phones

    6. Anon 18:29, you are a very naive person. Do you think going into Libya legally with black skin is going to protect you because you have papers. A country that is under no order and you being black and considered by Arabs to be beneath them anyways. Keep living in dream land. Many migrant workers enter seemingly safe Arab nations like Lebanon, Kuwait, SA and end up dead in them, the thing about these ppl is they will never prosecute their own ppl for killing an outsider, they oftentimes don't even prosecute men for killing the women of those lands, so how much protection will a black woman who is not a native have? Al Jazeera featured a documentary on Tunisia and how they treat the local Blacks in that country, people who were born and raised there, you go watch that documentary and see what life is like in those places for the black population. Even though Anwar Sadat was an obvious black man, Egyptians were in an uproar when he was labeled as such by the West, even he had to denounce his blackness.

    7. Who is thinking about getting justice crimes committed in a country that went thru total breakdown not too long.

Post war (post Gadaffi) Libya is Hell itself. Soany mercenaries that helped overthrow Gadaffi government made Libya home with so many arms and weapons in circulation. Crime rates soared cos government institutions we're already crippled. (It's similar to when BH held some territories in the NorthEast)
Just forget the justice issue and thank God for another chance.

    8. How come I haven't heard of health professionals being killed and tortured and from recent statistics..Nigerians in these field migrate there yearly. It's always the prostitu8and househelps who get there illegally that get this kind a treatment mostly...bottomline..get in there legally first and let's hear your torture story. Cause the stories I read are majorly from Libyan returnees who were illegal migrants

      Delete
    9. Legal house helps who have work permits are killed every year in Arab nations. Indonesian, Ethiopian, Filipinos and other African nationals are killed and raped every year over there. I would not take any work in Libya because it is an unstable place. Also, I would not feel happy living good and knowing that my country folk is being brutalized a few streets over by the same ppl who are smiling in my face. There is no bloody justification for treating ppl worse than animals, whether they are illegal or legal. Stop the freaking victim blaming. None of these ppl deserve to be raped, brutalized, enslaved, and murdered simply because they are illegal or using the country as a transit route. There is humanity and inhumanity, there is good and evil. Stop justifying evil, it is not a healthy mindset. Evil should never ever be acceptable or justified!

    2. You really need to take a break don't you think? Your constant bashing of women only shows the bitterness inside of you. The need to seek honest daily living is not a sin, the fact that men and even women are the ones actually painting a different scenario and trafficking them to their deaths speaks volumes. Abi na woman rape her in the prison? Was she kidnapped by women? Fellow blacks are in collusion with Arabs to deal with people seeking to better their lives you didn't see that?
This is a new year, this your mindset won't take you anywhere.

This poster made a choice and she should live with the consequences.

I wont because j want to follow band wagon. .be screaming haaa...here...abeg yansh down poster.....you dont deserve to be tortured but you opted for a possibility of that by embarking on this journey to libya knowing you could experience this...and yes cut the goat of working as a help and others are prostitutes

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon 18:29, It is well with you, the main reason I wrote this is to heal and start afresh, I don't need your sympathy Anon, it will neither heal me nor make me a better mother. If you read my story from the beggining, you will see where I stated my roommates and I worked as maids, it was only people that refused to pay that were sold into prostitution.
Secondly, I paid a heavy price for going into Libya illegally and I wasn't ready to suffer the same fate in refugee camps, those mistresses are still in refugee camps without neither papers nor jobs.
Thirdly, everyone makes mistake and am sure you are not perfect, talking about having a book cover? Will it be published for free? I know my potentials, and hopefully I will get there? Do you know how I feed? take care of a baby? without a job? do you know how I deal with the pain of been violated? I am trying to hold my head high and start afresh, so stop been Judgemental because in the end I paid a heavy price, and mind you Libyans don't care whether you are legal or illegal immigrants, the problem was our skin colour.

  36. I wonder how Barack Obama can sleep at night with the terrible thing he did to Libya and the people of Libya.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Once more, before you blame Obama, the involved deplorable Arabs, look inwards: whether in Lybia, Iraq, London or New York, the Nigerian embassy is a mere smokescreen. It's not favorable for many Naijas who do not come from money/politically connected families; Even more, let's say you come across a fellow Naija in obodo oyibo, the first thing they want to know, is your tribe before they help you or not. Is this not sad? Still, with all the right education and credentials/training and legal papers in place, Naijas will blackmail and lie against one, especially, if one is a single woman, so you're not hired for a professional assignment; if and when you're hired, they work assiduously behind the scenes to get one fired bcos of envy and the effrontery not to be intimately yoked to these devilish people, who are bent on painting as prostitute, every honest and hardworking, single Naija girl/woman they see abroad. Go figure!

    ReplyDelete

    1. My dear .I am resident in the USA..the watch word is dont be yoked as a Nigerian with Nigerians if at all be very watchful They will fuck you up...if you are married..they wanna destroy ya home..if you are successful they wanna make you poor...
