Channels TV has announced the death of its reporter shot during the clash between the police and Shiite protesters in Abuja.
The reporter, Precious Owolabi was working with the TV station as a member of the National Youth Service Corps.
The 23-year-old died of a gunshot wound he sustained while covering the clash between the police and the Shiite protesters on Monday in Abuja.
The management and staff of Channels Television are saddened by his demise and pray that God will grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, and avail his soul eternal rest.
Owolabi was the second death to be announced in connection with clash in Abuja today between Shiite protesters and the police
The police earlier said they lost a deputy commissioner, Usman Umar who was in charge of Operations, FCT Command.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital but died moments later while receiving treatment.
Two Assistant Superintendents of Police were also injured, the police spokesman said.
The Islamic Movement of Nigeria claimed that 11 protesters were killed.

DeleteWhen I watched the video online, I wept. How did we get to this point as a people? I read somewhere that a deputy police commissioner was also shot death by the protesters. The way people were falling down after been hit by bullets got me wondering, what kind of Nigeria or system do we have today?.

This would have avoided so many bloodshed and death we are seeing today. What is the government afraid of with this man? Since they disobeyed court orders and kept him incommunicado, has it stop the movement rascality?
I am beginning to understand the magnanimity of the mess Mr President plunged Nigeria into. Sad enough, he has no solution to it. Too bad if you asked me.

ReplyDeleteMy advice to people is, be very careful joining a mass protest, some unfortunate people will abuse the opportunity to cause mayhem and our law enforcement agents will have no option but to apply maximum force.
Our security services are not well trained and equipped to manage protest.
