MURIC Sends Memo To FG To Stop Airing Of BBNaija 2019 Reality Show

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has attacked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the Big Brother Naija reality TV show go on.

The Islamic group labelled the show being aired on national television as ‘immoral, dangerous and Bohemian.’
The group’s objection was contacted in a press statement by its Founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Friday.

The statement added, “We are being forcibly dragged to a world of nudity, shamelessness and open promiscuity. Inmates of BBNaija kiss, romance and engage in s#x openly. BBNaija is Bohemian, anti-social, crude and immoral. It constitutes a potent danger to every home. BBNaija is Satanic. It is unacceptable.

“Where are our norms and values? Is it part of African culture to engage in s#x in the open? Where are the authorities? Is the Ministry of Information and Culture sleeping? Is the National Orientation Agency on sabbatical? Who will protect our children from this despicable onslaught? Who did this to Nigeria?

“This reality show is dragging our children into a life of moral debauchery. It is robbing them of the last vestiges of honour. It is deleting the word ‘shame’ from their vocabulary. BB Naija has alienated our youth from the elders. A yawning lacuna now exists between the young and the old. Irreversible social crisis looms.

“We must see those who woo our young ones with humongous amounts of money, big cars and palatial buildings as those bent on destroying industry, diligence and integrity particularly among the youth. Nothing destroys a nation faster than materialism. The daughters of Jezebel are here already. Unless the authorities move with the speed of lightning, human dignity in Nigeria is going, going, going!

“Or do we not realize that for every single BB Naija inmate who wins big amount of money and a car, more than 50 million young people are misled? Qur’an 30:41 says, ‘Evil has appeared on both land and sea as a result of the handiworks of men…’ The Bible in Ephesians 4:19 was also describing these people when it says, ‘Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.’

“Already, the desperate quest for wealth by all means has gripped Nigerian youth like hay fever. It has railroaded them into Yahoo Yahoo, ritual killings and a museum mentality for the collection of female panties. Where exactly are we going?

“This development calls for serious concern and we are deeply concerned because we are the Muslim Rights Concern. Our hearts bleed in MURIC. This is the kind of evil that Muslim and Christian leaders should unite to fight with all their strength instead of dissipating their energy on a phantom Islamisation, a mirage called Fulanisation, Maradonic religiousity and gymnastic spirituality.

“We can put an end to this anomaly called BB Naija if Christians and Muslims bury the hatchet and come together to fight evil. Home is home. Moral debauchery knows no religion. The destructive influence of television shows like BB Naija penetrates both Christian and Muslim homes.

“Ditto for the custodians of our culture and tradition. Our traditional rulers ignore a program like this which has all the potentials to diminish the dignity of our culture. They are fighting over who should be chairman of the Council of traditional rulers. They want to be the King of kings and rivals of the Supreme Creator. Who placed a curse on Nigeria?

“Homo sapiens may not respect a single snake when they see one. But can anyone wait to see what follows if the cobra leads and it is faithfully followed by the python, the black mamba, rattle snake, garter snake and the anaconda? So what do you think will happen if our traditional rulers from the East, West and North march on Aso Rock to demand the immediate halt of this horrible show?

“To cap the edifice, MURIC calls for immediate and total ban on this satanic television show. We charge the Ministry of Information and Culture to move swiftly against BB Naija before moral debauchery becomes Nigeria’s middle name. Nigerian youth must be protected from themselves and the time to do so is now. We invite the National Assembly to intervene immediately and we appeal to traditional rulers to add their voices to this campaign.”

  1. Thats the reason it is air on dstv,so its your choice to watch and not to watch.

Cos dstv isn't own by Nigeria or probably they are asking the fed govt to ban dstv from the whole country.
Anyone who choose to watch can watch and no body force anyone to it.

The find it easy to kill but will call out other sins committed by people who do not practice their religion.

  6. I think we have had enough of this Muslim ideology.
This country does not belong to the Muslims, any attempt by the northern folks to Islamatize Nigeria, must be resisted at all cost.
Every part of the world has it's own ways of doing things.
In the north there's a profound rumor that most of these Fulani herdsmen are sleeping with their animals.
We from the south have not asked that all the northerners be castrated.
Let the north face its business and let the other parts of the country live their lives the way they want to. We are in the 21st century for Christ sake.
Watching bbn is not by compulsion, you have a choice. If it doesn't agree with your way of life, switch to another station πŸ’πŸΏ‍♀

It's like saying we should do away with social media because some people may get corrupted by what they see.
Most Muslims are pervs, that's why they view everything as negative while they commit worse sins in private.

What aspect of creativity, resilience and Africanism does BBN project? With all the growth the Asian countries have seemingly embraced, they still hold fast to their core values. We should learn to choose what and who we copy from Wisely. #3m dollars(1.8bn naira) was spent on BBN by bet9ja.. yet there is Ultimate Search that 'died' due to lack of funding.. God save Africa

Nigeria is a secular state. How did they even know that
there was a show in the first place; they watched it?
I have never tuned in to that show.
Nobody is attacking the president for allowing sharia laws in
the North or attending OIC meeting when Nigeria is not a muslim country.
There is freedom of expression in the Nigerian constitution.
I won't watch this show, I don't like it but I don't ever think that
islamization of Nigerian culture should be ignored.

  23. 1. Nigeria is a secular state.. its neither Christian nor islamic.
    2. Its a thing of choice, never tune to the channel. Well, your kids will meet other kids who will tell them about BBN, the onus is on you to train your kids and by God's grace hope you have done a good job.
    3. The current BBN isnt aired out of the shores of Africa meaning you can ban it from being watched in your house . Institute parental guidance and censor the channel.
    4. Whether you ban BBN or not, evil and good will always exist till the end of time. There is nothing you can do about it. Not even prayers can eradicate it. You only pray for good to triumph but we all know till we take our last breath , evil and good will always exist to maintain the balance. Its left for you to make a choice if you love good, choose good and train your offsprings to see good and always choose it.

I suppose it goes withoutsaying as they are only a Concern group. If they are really concerned about what the youth watch they should surely make a case for banning the internet and mainstream television as a whole as these platforms are going the way of the west which we describe as immorality. Nonetheless this was an interesting read with great choices of words by the author.

These thoughts are however personal and can't/shouldn't be forced on any1. Otherwise, this will be an act of infringing on other people freedom. After all, no1 is forcing another to watch the show. It's on pay TV and you av a right not to subscribe to it.

  56. Granted, there are several other cogent issues bugging Nigeria presently, which MURIC shd be looking into and condemning but this BBN issue is also one of them. If u take time to consider his arguments, he's making valid points. U may argue that viewership can be restricted (which in itself is true) however, one still finds such productions getting into the public space - offices, shops, restaurants, transport vehicles, etc. Like porn, such productions shd also be restricted from such public space. Let's not throw away the baby with the bathwater. Our youths need to be reorientated before inanities like BBN drive them off the brink. Another way to do that nevertheless, is for the government to make some sense out of the present contraption we keep calling a nation, let the youth find more useful things to keep themselves busy with.
