Actor Peter Edochie Says It's A Taboo For A Man To Kneel Down And Propose To A Woman

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie has slammed men who go on their knees to propose to their lovers,He says that such is not African and is wrong.

The respected actor, frowned at the level by which Africans especially young people of today are adopting the ways and policies of the Europeans, thereby rubbishing our tradition and culture. Kneeling to propose to a woman is white people’s culture because women dominate there and have more right than men, it is not the African man’s ways.

The actor whitewashed African men who kneel down to propose to their would-be wives all in the name of love. He said by so doing, you’re giving the woman power over you, thereby making her the head of the marriage. He went on to remind us that, in the traditional way of things, it is a woman who kneels to give drink to a man to show her loyalty, humility and total submission to the man and that’s the way it should be.

In his words, ... "I didn’t kneel to propose to my wife and we’ve stayed 50years in our marriage, I took my time to woo her, when it’s time to settle down, I asked if she’ll marry me and that was it. He went on to give account of how the Whites came to Africa pretending to be archeologists but little did we know they came to destroy our culture and trade us".

    1. It's his culture and tradition he is defending, as he should, but he dint have to rubbish another man's tradition in the process.
      I still love him.

that is the Whiteman way,but everything is changing in time.We Africans have adopted a lot of things from the whites that in more years to come our traditions and cultures will not be known by the future generations.

  12. I don’t know if it’s a taboo, but I find it stupid and unnecessary. It is not romantic. It is not a show of love. It is simply a borrowed trend like Nigerians celebrating Halloween in Nigeria. Silly copycat mentality. Guys, if a woman thinks you must kneel to propose, consider that a massive red flag, you are about to marry a mindless drone

  16. That's his opinion, I'm indifference to how a man proposes. What i don't like is public proposal with cameras clicking.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't really care how a man choose to propose to the woman he wants to spend the remainder of his life with.

I am not a fan of public proposal, that I frown at. Every other way of proposal is acceptable by me.

  19. Lol @ giving the woman power over you. A human that can bleed at least three days every month for years, without passing out. A person that can either end your life or extend your lineage by getting naked. And this is before juju enter. Such a creature is who believe you get power pass cos you're a man. Chai!

Submission is bringing yourself down. It's only someone that's your equal or superior who can bring themselves down for you. If they were already below you, whatever they're doing is not called submitting.

And humility or loyalty isn't by kneeling down. Ask politicians.

  22. Lmao! Kneel, stand, squat, throw the ring..it don't matter as long as there's a proposal. 😂😂

Some of us even went to pick it out ourselves. 😂😂

    ReplyDelete
  23. Old school man talking. We don't expect you to agree with it, you are not in our generation. Men like you are the ones that treat women like slaves. Preach to your old people and not the young ones.

    1. This post is getting the worst outta you, courtesy. Stop!

    2. ☝️ can see you are an expert at old school man who treat woman has slave. Advice try not to generalize "Men like you".

      Delete
    3. Courtesy is telling the truth, sha! It's so nauseating the way these old men describe marriage. You would think the woman is some inanimate property, some mindless puppet to be controlled by a master. The whole concept of submission is archaic and demeaning to women. It doesn't matter how intelligent, accomplished or resourceful a woman is, she's still not good enough to make decisions in her household. Simply because she was unfortunate enough to be born with a vagina. It's so disrespectful! Then again, all these religious books were written for men and by men. So of course they work for men. Patriarchy is a disease.

  24. Peter Edochie is extremely sexist. Isn't he the one who said men shouldn't marry women from broken homes because women from broken homes won't know how to maintain a marriage? Mtcheew! Typical old Igbo man mentality!
I'm so glad I'm not married to an egotist who feels he's entitled to rule over me simply because he has a penis. I love and respect my husband and he loves and respects me. Nobody "rules" over anybody, nobody controls anybody. He respects me as his equal and I respect him as my equal. I try to treat him the way I want to be treated; with love, respect and dignity. We take decisions together all the time; no one's vote is bigger than the other. We do everything as a team; from housework to paying bills. When there are disagreements, we try to compromise for each other. Sometimes I compromise for him and sometimes he compromises for me. He is not perfect and neither am I. Our marriage isn't perfect either.
However, when I listen to typical Nigerian men describe marriage and their idea of what marriage should be, I bless God every single day that I didn't marry a typical Nigerian man. I thank God that I married a man who was raised by a strong and independent woman, who taught him to see his wife as an equal rather than a subordinate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 be truthfully to yourself, nothing like equal in human affairs or behavior. Someone is the subordinate and someone is master. It can be either the woman being the master and man subordinate or vice versa. Please think deeply about this 👍

      Delete
    2. @Anon 12; 29 Not in an egalitarian partnership where all parties involved respect each other, understand each other and love each other. Some days, the woman will compromise for the man's wish to be done. Other days, the man will compromise for the woman's wish to be done. Truth be told in 2019, most households are egalitarian. The woman might say she is submissive, but when you go to the house, the man probably goes along with her decisions more than she goes along with his. Even the men screaming "I'm the head, I'm the head" compromise for their wives.

Nigerians can copy anything. We forget we have a culture. Now what does our culture say? A South African man would not kneel down to propose to his fiancé. They know their culture. We forget we are Africans. Always quick to jump on the bandwagon.
