Doctor Stripped By Dead Patient's Family Because She Did Not Adhere To Their Wish...

A female doctor in FCT Abuja was assaulted and stripped naked by the relatives of the the patient in her care when she refused to adhere to their instruction to transfuse blood to the patient and patient eventually died....

The doctor reportedly tried to explain to the family members of the patient (while still alive) with a chronic medical condition that blood transfusion was not necessary as the blood level was adequate and administering blood without need would further complicate the patient's situation.
The family however did not want any of her explanations and threatened to kill her if their relative died.

Dr. Roland Aigbovo, the President of FCT Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja decried the increasing rate at which the lives of medical personnel are being threatened by relations of patients in the FCT.
He said: “It has been estimated that recently, no fewer than six health workers, especially doctors and nurses, have been assaulted by patient’s relatives in FCT hospitals.
“The recent victim being a female doctor who was stripped naked by relatives of a patient, who died three days ago.

The suspects are currently in detention at the Maitama Police Station, Abuja, and would be charged to court.

  2. Nawa for some people ooo, i believe the doctor knows better, if there is need for blood transfussion she would have done that. This is too bad, proper action should be taken to serve as deterent to others.

  5. Nawa o. Illiteracy is very bad. They don't understand that not all patients require blood transfusion. You cannot give who get blood, blood

  6. Hmm. This door swings both ways. In this case the patient's relative were wrong. They didn't understand and they just lost someone. They acted insane probably because they've heard about
and maybe experienced poor services which has led to the death on many in several hospitals. Many doctors and staff in the hospital environment in Nigeria like to play "God". I can't even type about the cases I've witnessed in the past. In all, they were wrong to have stripped the doctor naked. That was crass but they should be allowed to grieve and bury their dead.

    1. They can grieve behind bars and their other relatives can bury the dead. The children of the elite study photography and are given the best of protection but doctors already risking their lives to save others are stripped naked and then Nigerians feel betrayed when they abandon ship for better climes. Why won't they as that is their chance to see and treat the politicians who were voted in by the same masses but are not uninterested in improving the health system since London, Dubai and Germany are a flight away?

  8. What's this thing about stripping people naked? Why does it have to be that? How about going to management or something. Very wrong I there say. It is well.

  9. That's why alot of doctors are leaving this country in great number. It is a very critical situation oh. Soonest there will be very few specialists in this Nation. And the govt is doing Norrin about it.

  10. So if they all what was needed to save their family member why even bring them to the hospital. Mtschhw. These ppl are crazy. You can't just get up and do a blood transfusion without a legitimate reason.
