Nigerian Airspace Locked Down For Another Four Weeks...

The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the ban on local and international flights by four weeks.

This was revealed by Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, during the daily briefing on Wednesday.

“Tomorrow marks the last day for the enforcement of the closure of Nigeria’s airspace to flights. We have assessed the situation in the aviation industry and have come to the conclusion that given the facts available to us and based on the advice of experts, the ban on all flights will be extended for an additional four weeks,” he said.

“The Honourable Minister of Aviation will give you details during this briefing.”

  1. Nawa o, this is terrible, pilots are now broke, air hostesses too, it’s so unfair. They should fumigate the planes and practice social distancing by eliminating the middle seats, that’s what other countries are doing but because it will affect the elites the won’t do it

    1. Obviously, what I heard this afternoon is not what I can type here, many families are taking off so I doubt the 'flying with permission' part. The wealthy are bolting away.

Don't mind them. Something fishy is going on,what are all these cars turning to face the international route looking for? many planes in the sky.

      God protect the innocent biko.

  5. Oh well. We are already getting used to it. Not like there is any form of major traveling coming up any time soon. At the end of the day almost all the countries will open their airspaces at the same time, June-July.

  8. God help us cos our jobs are our only source of income. This is the eight week of being off work for some of us in the Travel industry and the IATA Bsp is not even helping matter as we have not received a dime from the companies since the lockdown. Nawa oh

    1. I understand your plight dear, our industry is the worst hit..
The travel agency that I worked for retrenched everybody as they were having challenges with paying bsp, paying salaries while not making any money & receiving inflow at the moment...
I have 4years of experience in the travel industry & most travel agencies are bleeding at the moment...
Who knows when someone will get another job replacement??
Some days I wake up & the first thing that I do is to cuss China...
This is almost half of the year& we have more months to pay for their unapologetic incompetence...

  12. This was what federal government would have done lone time ago but nope they waited till Buhari's daughter landed before he announced lockdown. God will send thunder to all our evil leaders.

    1. Sometimes some of you make childish comments. Closing of airspace has nothing to do with Buhari’s daughter. Even if the airspace was closed in January, the so called Buhari’s daughter can still fly in and out of Nigeria with approved flight.

What you failed to realise is there were people in and outside Nigeria that needed to move around. You don’t just close down your airspace without proper planning. How about the economy, how about business, how about people?

FYI, the UK airspace remains open and has never been closed despite the high death rate.
