Woman Barren For 15 Years Buys New Born Baby Young Lady For Less Than 200K Naira..

Sad story!!!

A young woman of twenty, Miracle Kalu who was apprehended by the police for selling her new born baby has explained the rationale behind her action.

Miracle revealed that she sold the baby to Mrs Cecilia Okafor for N130, 000 because she took care of her when she was hungry and homeless.

She said: “It was frustration that made me to sell my baby.
It was when I was wondering about in Lagos that the woman saw me. She took good care of me during my antenatal till I gave birth in Imo State.

When I noticed I was pregnant, I went back to my boyfriend and told him that I was pregnant but he chased me away. He said he didn’t want the baby. That was why I left Imo State for Lagos. When it was time for me to give birth, I went back to Imo State where I was delivered of the baby girl.

“When I had no money to take care of the baby, I told my sister that I wanted to sell my baby and she gave me the go ahead. That was why I decided to call the woman (Okafor) to come and take the baby.

“But if my parents were alive, I wouldn’t sell my baby. They would have taken care of me and my baby. My sister has her own challenges too. I dropped out of school at Senior Secondary School II. My boyfriend and I used to meet in his shop. That was where he slept with me and I got pregnant."

Mrs Cecilia Okafor who was also arrested alongside with her husband and two other accomplices said desperation made her do it.

She said: “Miracle claimed that there was nobody to care of her and that she needed money to take care of her asthma, and because I was barren for 15 years, I decided to buy the baby from her.

“After we had sealed the deal, she travelled to Imo State where she gave birth to a baby girl. She then informed me of the delivery on the phone. It was then I sent my sister and brother to go to Imo State to bring the baby girl back to Lagos after which I gave them the money to pay to her.

“It was when the people I sent to Imo State to bring the baby were returning to Lagos that policemen arrested them at Anthony Village area, which also led to my arrest and the arrest of my husband.

“I regret my actions. It was because I needed the baby, that was why I decided to buy it. My mates have given birth to three to four children and I am not getting younger. God should forgive me.”

  1. Honestly, thus news breaks my heart because this is clearly not a wicked case from either party.

I don't even know what to say.

    1. She should have followed due process for adoption. I believe that baby will have a better life living with her than the poor biological mother.

    3. True but it's still illegal. The danger of buying/selling human life is that once people see it as profitable, people will kidnap babies or switch new borns at birth and sell them. And the society will be unsafe. The law exists for a reason.

    4. Why isn't surrogacy legal in Nigeria, again?

    5. Was it not here the other day someone wrote people are adopting kids everyday?I said it, those people are buying these kids, the legal process of adoption is not that easy.

    6. I once wrote my friend did this rubbish, her family kicked against it and made sure she returned that child.
Truth is, if this is encouraged, pple will start stealing children and selling. Discourage it with every moral in u pls. It is wrong.
Let anyone who wants a child go tru d right process pls.

    7. This would easily have ualified under the private adoption procedure in Nigeria. Yes,even in Nigeria we have private adoption. You have a mother who wnts to give up a child on one hand and a woman or family who is ready to "adopt" the child on the other hand. Go to the ministry of women and social affairs and they will walk you through the procedure. It's really not impossible, just be ready to grease some palms to expedite things. Once the consent of the mother is confirmed, out go before a judge and the doprion is made legal. Everybody goes home happy and you can even "dash" the birth mother some money if you want. I found out this when I want to make enquuries bout dopring a child from the ministry in charge. It's much easier and faster than trying to adopt from the orphanage homes of the govt.

  3. Why would you buy another human being? no matter the circumstances of you being barren, that is just wrong before God and man.

She could have adopted the baby in a legal way with the permission of the mother, not buying her off😩

    1. You're sounding like the process to adoption easy...( not saying she was right)

    2. It's hard to not justify this one. The birth mother obviously can't raise the child. And the government that has taken the child won't even do better

    3. Is legal adoption free?
The biological mum chose her to adopt the baby and she paid the 'agency fees' to her.
Her only offence is not going about it according to the law.
I wish them the best. Forcing an unwilling mother to keep a baby she happily placed on the arms of a woman that wants her.
      Ok.

    4. No matter how tough legal adoption is, baby sale should not be encouraged at all and should rightly be illegal. Once criminals deem it as profitable baby kidnapping & reselling will be on the rise and no one will be safe.

    5. You all come from the same place where both buyer and seller came from, I can bet it, that's why it's easy for you all to justify his evil act.

Once the dude had had his "fix" of fornication,
    the transaction has ended.
That explains the chasing away; he wants sex, fornication
    but not the baby.

  7. The word "bought" spoiled this case. Why not adopt the baby in a legal way instead of buying.

    2. There is a serious crime in it. You can not just sell off a child like you are doing trade by barter. It doesn't work that way. The law protects children because they are vulnerable.
I understand poverty can push people to do despicable things but selling children like they are goods get as e be.

  10. Why the arrest?Did she thief the baby? No!!
Who knows the pressure and the bashing she must have received before going for the alternative.

Two of the women need counseling.
The seller is in desperate need of money while the buyer is in desperately need of baby.

This is humiliation and I feel for them

    2. If u try legal adoption in nigeria, u will wait 4 5yrs and h will do a lot of bribing, u will spend over 5m bribing different ministries and tribunals. At the end they might still deny u. Adoption in nigeria is meant for the rich & influential.

  13. The welfare officers have made adoption so cumbersome, expensive and lots of bureaucracy involved.
This woman sought the short cut and shot herself on the foot.
She should have approached a lawyer for advice towards adopting that baby legally.

  14. The people she sent could not prove the baby was theirs.

They would have come to Lagos with the mother of the baby or the woman and her husband would have gone to bring the baby themselves.

  16. This is truly a sad situation, the arrangement for her to adopt the girl's baby would have been made if they had gone through due process. Very pathetic!

  17. She bought a baby like they buy goat and ram in the market... I see why this child abuse and baby factory is booming in Nigeria!

The adoption process in Nigeria is not hard anything, it is stricter, yes! The government decided to make it stricter when educated Nigerian women started using it as a means of livelihood. People were coming from the US and Europe to adopt children that they use for trafficking, lab experiments etc. Nigerian government had to put a stop to it for a long time until few years ago that they have started allowing people to adopt again.
If you follow due process, you will adopt as many children as you need in Nigeria.

  18. No justification irbuy a human being like buying a toy on the shelves.

  20. Hmm...she would've simply invited the mother with the baby to stay with her for a few months. Then she can leave with "transport" money. Nobody would've suspected anything. Sending people to go collect the child just makes me uncomfortable, like they are going to buy a little chicken

  21. The woman and her husband did not steal the baby, the mother of the baby admitted to willingly giving the child up, but maybe due to ignorance she and her husband didn't go through the right process. I feel sorry for her, the disgrace and the humiliation she is going through, the government has arrested them but they are not going to support that child and the mother for long and if care is not taken, that child may become a miscreant in the society and the mum will become pregnant again for another man and the same thing will happen again. The government should be lenient with the woman since she has learnt her lessons in the hard way.

  22. Even though it was a mutual agreement between two adults, I would have preferred the woman to through the legal process of adoption. the child is going to have a better life, but trust me, the other lady and her boyfriend might start using the woman as an ATM, demanding for more money from her since there was no legal agreement, or asking for their child back when they see the child is doing well
