Former President Obasanjo Explains Shocking Reason June 12 Election Was Annulled

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday disclosed that the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, won by Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, was carried out by “bad belle”.

The regime of military President, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) annulled the election.

Obasanjo while speaking after his investiture as a Trustee of the Abeokuta Club, a sociocultural organisation of Egba people of Ogun State, condemned the annulment of the election and the effect on Abeokuta.

The group on Sunday awarded Abiola with a posthumous Vice-Patron of the Club during its 46th President Party held at the secretariat in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo who disclosed Abiola was his school mate at Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, noted that he deserved the award bestowed on him by Abeokuta Club.

The former President added that the cancellation of June 12 election robbed the Egbaland the rare opportunity to have three of its prominent sons, occupy the seat of president, at different times.

You won the election in 1999, perhaps as compensation for Abiola, all Nigeria Presidents na compensation(try your luck bonanza) Yar'adua is a good man, but he is still a compensation bonanza too for his brother Shehu.

    1. Some Nigerians be tribalistic towards Igbos and then act as though Igbo are exaggerating marginalism. All right.

  4. You had eight years to repair abiola's image, release the election results, award him gcfr, renew his business licences eg Summit oil, compensate his family and so on but rather than seek justice, you were buying hummers for your girlfriends, sleeping around and looking for third term. Now that you are losing relevance as kingmaker, you want to use this same man to shine- the guy you abandoned after he did so much for you. Let's hear word abeg.
