They are beginning the strike because the Federal Government of Nigeria failed to honour and implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with them after over 100 days.
Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, President of the NARD, who made this known in a statement at the weekend, demanded immediate withdrawal of the circular removing House Officers from the scheme of service, which was not implemented.
The statement read in part, “We are embarking on a total and indefinite strike on August 2, 2021 [Monday]. You can recall we had a memorandum of action on March 31, 2021, and had an addendum to it on April 9, and since then, we still have had irregularities in the payment of salaries to the house officers.
“We had issues with them being non-regular payment and as part of the memorandum of action, it was said that they should be captured back into the IPPS platform.”

DeleteEven Asuu is threatening strike action. Our FG never honors any memorandum they make with any sector. Know this and know peace. They are still owing my sector our minimum wage arrears over two years now. I have removed mind from it. If they like they pay if they like they should not pay. Focusing my energies on what will profit me.

ReplyDeleteThat was how a friend of mine died some years ago after being driven out of the ward because of strike.. she died a few days after they chased them out of the ward..she suffered from breast cancer. Nigeria no be country o.

ReplyDeleteWhy is the federal government responsible for paying doctors salaries. Federal hospitals make enough money to pay the salaries of their doctors. A few years ago, a bed in UBTH was 7,000 a week, ass at April 2020 it was 6,000 a night. General practice clinic now collects 1,000 for consultancy as at early 2020. To register in the emergency clinic is 6,000. To see a consultant in COPD is 1,000.(2020) There are hundreds of people seeking treatment there everyday. Add the several unnecessary tests patients pay for, often they don't get the results of the tests. You pay to see a consultant, but they are never there, One of their registrars was stupid enough to tell a middle aged woman " Don't pray to see a consultant" One told my wife " I don't like attending to educated women
