TEEJAYS CORNER

To some people, family is EVERYTHING and to another, it could be a mere title.

While I won't fault whatever belief and notion anyone holds about the family circle, I would love to say that in my own view, family isn't just about blood but extends to the very people who have your back most of the time when you need them.

It could be a close friend or even a good neighbor.

I love my family no doubt, but sometimes, things don't always go the way we want them to. I've seen families torn apart after siblings got married and went on to live in separate homes.

Equally, I've seen families in dispute as a result of financial issues. It takes only Grace for a family to stay together and united forever.

Years back, when I was into hustling, I tried the very best I could to meet up with family demands. I never stopped attending to financial requests from my people.

In fact, my mother was the medium in which they always come through. No matter how provoked I sounded, I ended up giving out. This was one of the reasons I couldn't make savings for myself then and when things took a nosedive, I had no one to fall back on. It was a terrible experience. Bad enough, the very people who would always make you feel without your help they will be doomed will be quick to move on with their lives as if nothing happened when you're  down.

I lost respect in the family when I couldn't provide anymore. I was no longer consulted before decisions were taken over certain issues.

Sometimes they would ask "What have you done for us?"

A family that depends on one person for survival ends up bringing that source down if the source isn't deeply rooted. This is the very reason there should be collective effort from everyone in the family instead of relying on a single individual for survival.

Intentionally, I once refused a financial plea from my mom sometime ago for payment of rents. There was nothing she didn't say. I politely let them know I didn’t have at that moment. I told her to meet my other siblings.

When they found out how serious I was, they let me be. And to my amazement, the rent was paid with their collective effort. The same people who had made me believe all along that I was the only capable hand to solve all of our family problems could eventually solve one themselves. Funny enough, even when I didn't have, I would borrow to please them.

It was an eye opener for me and it made me resolve to not kill myself over family matters.

Always remember this one thing - If at the long run you fail and didn't make it in life as a result of trying to be the people's pleaser, the very people you once helped and pleased, will always blame you for your failure in life.

WOW... wonderful piece!!!... This is one of your best writeups Teejay....

NAZIRITES INK

Put your account in private, that's your headache!!

You should thank your star I didn't get the support I needed to send your half-naked picture to your Mother".

Oh such a soul but took the part of destruction you are towing now. Got pregnant for an oil dealer at a tender age to the point she gave birth to you and your brother, she managed to give you the good life, till today, she is yet to settle down.

You Jenny, grew up before our eyes, barely 14 yet acting 18, you Jenny, grew up in my hands, I watched you run around in your pant, now you are grown and post picture in only pant.. Mtchewww, Radarada!

Instagram boys will oh! and aww! Wack on your nude for pleasure at night but you will never be a Take-home-to-Mama in the day, if you don't repent and change your ways.

Rekia told me to let you be, but how long will I pretend? I am tired of seeing your nakedness everywhere, knowing your mother is somewhere in Imaki, trying to shadow your life on social media, .....I know you declined her request.. Lydia, your room mate from remedials told me.

You clearly put your account in private because I came hard on you, honestly, like I mentioned, "I am disappointed", and I forever refuse to hold back.

Looking at the bright side, I know I did the right thing, you will come back in few years to thank me that I scolded you, and that you wish I had done so earlier.

Love you Always, my dearest Jenny. From your strict Aunty GuGulu.

Na wah !!!... You sef!

    5. Hi guys please don't be upset...Tola Odunsi one of the producers said on twitter or IG that Ayoola allegedly relocated and did not tell them about his intention..And they were on a very tight schedule and they had to come up with Pere...Pere is a good actor right from Wale Adenuga's super story days...Sorry on the short notice..

    1. Nice write up TeeJay, I learnt the hard way. 2019 and 2020 opened my eyes. Once they think you don't have, the respect is gone, even in churches. When I was broke, I was belittled and insulted cos I don't have then and I used to carry everything for head that I single handedly decorated the altar, I respected myself and left the church. Nobody asked of me, now I am picking up, now they want me back in the church, I told them let me pray

  9. Nazirite's Ink, I think you had good intentions, but went about it the wrong way. When you see a child going astray, one of the surest route is go try and win them over with love, care and patience. Shouting or probably reprimanding harshly will not get the desired result. That stage is a rough and tough one for some and you & I will agree that when we were their age, we didn't want anyone policing us unnecessarily.

  34. If you like have 500 million naira cash and start today to solve family problems;IT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH..

If you are married for instance and your extended(mum and Dad or siblings) are very okay, what of your aunt, uncle, cousin etc??

As you are solving your aunts own, your uncle will hear and ask for his,you do that and your paternal cousin will come? You do that again and the cycle goes;before you know the 500 million is gone and you have nothing for yourself..

And you now lose your source of income?? That is when you realise that money is only but a visitor..

Funny enough;if the money you once had isn't there anymore and you tell "them" you are broke;everyone will blame you and even ask why were you not able to save then...

    Teejay Ezege worldwide;Daalu...

My advice to anyone is;help where you can, just dont lose yourself or your focus.

There's this woman a nurse and from all indications, she seemed to be the one shouldering the family. She was always looking haggard and sometimes talks to herself while working. Some months ago we learnt she passed on. She seemed to have carried all her family's burden. Now, her husband and kids are going about even looking better off.

Teejay your writeup is speaking to me, I earn less than 30k, and my family takes it all, as in, I always have nothing to fall back on, I can't even buy sanitary pads, yet my younger ones in school would keep asking for money, one of them asked me recently, Sis what have you done for us sef? , all these your chicken change! I cried ehnn, but what will I do na, I just forgive them and move on.

    1. My younger sis once told me that many years ago, she said "do you think it is the chicken change you give me that I am living on?
I cut off the "chicken change". She started going through my mum, I was adamant on not giving her any thing anymore and I didn't until she finished school. Today she is married and mature, we are best friends.
