What you are about to read will shock you....
Once a man gets married, his wife will not cook or sweep for 4 years. This period is called "Anyuuc" (Generous Welcoming). It is meant for the new bride to rest, relax and study her husband's homestead values.
During this time, her husband's sister will do the cooking, washing utensils, collecting firewood, fetching water, and doing other domestic work till later.
After 4 years, her husband decides to arrange a very big party called "Thaat" (cooking festival) where 3 cows and 5 goats are slaughtered to initiate a wife into cooking for the family.

But if the man misbehaved during the 4 years the wife can decide to leave and she doesn't even have to pay back the dowry''.

Delete@Kidjo, supported. Remember, you will first go do it for your brothers or male cousins. In most customs, you first do before it is done for you.

ReplyDeleteThis can never work in Nigeria lol
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteI can't practise this. I'll get bored of others serving me for four years. E too long abeg.
ReplyDeleteOld customs. Are they followed today? Evey woman who enjoys it is likely to have worked the four years elsewhere too as a sister unless she has no brothers or male relatives who got married.
ReplyDeleteNo real gain for women as hailed.
Nigerian in-laws left the group chat, blocked the admin, deleted the number and even cornered admin and beat crase comot for him bodi! My in-laws were trying to turn me into maid because I want to marry. They didn't tell me to my face o but they were pressuring my husband. He that is their puppet will come and meet me and be saying "my mother said this, my elder sisters said that". Me i now asked him if he's ready to come and wash my father's car and weed grasses in our compound to also show he's a husband material. He said "for what? He is a man. Where have you heard that a man did such?" When talk was becoming too much, I now told him I'm very busy at work. Anytime I have free time, I will come. From that time till we got married even till today, I have not had free time. They should be there and be waiting. I'm coming.

DeleteTwo can play the game.
On both sides of the family, *I no send who no send me*.
No time for eye service right from courtship.
In-laws should treat wife as they want to be treated and wives should do likewise. πΆ♀️πΆ♀️
Good one
ReplyDeleteomo see grooveeeeeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteThis is a disfavour to women still. Why can't the husbands do the work for their wives for 4 years? Then that's worth talking about. Why should the sister stop her own life to slave for someone. Africans please develop. Women ain't no slaves or properties. Stop exchanging money or goods to marry us either.
ReplyDeleteNo respect and value for women
DeleteOnly the easily swayed will fall for this "tradition". It is still all about keeping women in chains. For her to "enjoy" for four years, some other girl's hopes and dreams have to be truncated. For her to be qualified for four years, she would most likely have served a number of brothers. Gosh...
DeleteThis is seriously serious ππππ. I don't think l will like to have this kind life,am I'm not an invalid. I like to do some of my cooking myself.
ReplyDeleteWife material 100%π
DeleteInukwa! 100-500 cows! And here some complain of how much is on the marriage list.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun untill you have 4 elder brothers who get married at every 4 years interval. You will serve the wives till your back breaks before it get to your turn.
ReplyDeleteJust tell them your back is broken after the first 4 years. π€£π€£π€£
DeleteAnyway, who should 'apply' for this 'job-ery' (slavery)?
All the single sisters...all the single sisters...(2×)π΅πΆ
Put hands up... Oh oh ooh oo-oho...oh oh ooh πΌ oo-oh oh...π€ πΆππ
