Singer DBANJ Reportedly Arrested Over Fraud Allegations

Popular Nigerian musician Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj, has been arrested and detained by Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

According to Sunnewsonline, the musician was arrested and detained on Tuesday after ICPC operatives closed in on him, forcing him to surrender himself at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, sources familiar with the matter said.

The pop star, a wealthy Nigerian celebrity, is accused of fraudulently diverting hundreds of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project, an empowerment programme set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.

Investigators alleged that D’banj colluded with some compromised government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme

The stipends paid to those beneficiaries were then paid to accounts that have now allegedly been linked to the pop star.

After the musician failed to show up for interrogation despite multiple invitations, the ICPC moved to arrest him anywhere in Nigeria and abroad, forcing him to show up at the commission’s office on Tuesday.

On arrival, D’banj was subjected to a prolonged interrogation session after which he was detained. His plea for administrative bail was rejected by officials who said the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.

It was also gathered that ICPC might approach the court for an extended remand order to enable the agency complete its investigation before charging the musician in court.

    2. Clear conscience fears NO ALLEGATION. Why was he avoiding their invitation ? A popular, upright, talented and well connected person in Nigeria would have honored that investigation long before now. There is NO SMOKE in Nigeria without FIRE...I know most of our security agencies are corrupt and not to be trusted but in this particular case, (in wike's voice) "You see this one, this one right here- REMOVE YOUR HAND"...... He was involved directly or indirectly. He need to sell something and SETTLE.. finish. Our security agencies only work when you fail RESPECT or SETTLE them...

Don't mind me, I know what you mean, just that I dey always look Una with corner eye when una go dey use man described these things, e.g. "the heart of man is wicked", even when na woman do the wicked thing..

However, I'm not surprised about the whole Dbanj ish, having a mind of one's own is a big flex in this present world, if you compare yourself or put unnecessary pressure on yourself because of what you see people post on the internet, you would have yourself to be blamed..

Was it not 2 days ago we all saw a post here, of one musician that bought two cars at the same time, an escalade and one other expensive truck, and was flaunting.. if we ask how he made the money now, we'll be called haters..

      Nothing stays hidden forever ✌️

  17. IF this is true, it'll make me so angry, so so angry. The rich continue to greedily steal from the poor and still oppress them whenever they cry out for justice. Why? Why do we have so many people (read Nigerians) with questionable moral character today? Even among those who supposedly have enough? What is this madness? Is a good name no longer better than silver and gold? Is stealing and deceit no longer shameful acts? What is wrong with out generation?

  18. Nigerians will soon turn it into a show of love and I like him/her syndrome. If he is guilty, he should be punished according to the law. We can't have a nation of two laws: one for the poor, another for the rich and connected. You might like or even love d banj as a musician but this is about the law

    1. Don't mind them. See them talking about guilty until proven innocent, if it's true bla bla... when he clearly evaded arrest. If he's innocent why didn't he submit himself to the police when invited rubbish

  20. Robbing from the disadvantaged and marginalized is as low as one can go. Everyday ppl complain no opportunity in the country, and something comes in place for the youth to help them get ahead and other ppl who have already made it in life and have wealth and status will still slap food out of these young poor ppl's mouths. How fckn low can you go for money. The authorities should keep the pressure on and shake them all down. He and his cohorts get no sympathy from me.
