Keyamo explained that Tinubu only inherited a budget that made no provision for fuel subsidy.
During his inaugural speech at the Eagles Square, Tinubu had said fuel subsidy was gone
Tweeting, Keyamo wrote: “A section of the Press is mischievously twisting the narrative to read that TINUBU’s GOVERNMENT HAS REMOVED SUBSIDY. That is NOT CORRECT. TINUBU’s govt has merely inherited a regime where there was no provision for subsidy in the 2023 Appropriation Act as from June, 2023 and the Petroleum Industry Act which is now extant has no provision for subsidy.
“President Tinubu merely acknowledged this state of affairs in his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square.
“So any advocate of subsidy should convince the Nigerian people why President Tinubu should start on a note of illegality by promising to reintroduce something which the law has taken away.
“They should also convince the Nigerian people why President Tinubu should embark on a present illegality that gulped $10 billion of our scarce or unavailable resources in 2022 alone.
“Those claiming to defend the right or welfare of workers should convince the Nigerian people that $10 billion injected into the economy yearly will not jumpstart the economy enough as to create massive jobs and even increase the same minimum wage they complain about.
“That is the conversation the Nigerian people are prepared to have now.”

Good morning news ☺️.
ReplyDeleteSo what are they doing to remedy the situation, we are done with mere rhetoric
DeleteIf this new one likes, he should surround himself with clueless, greedy sycophants like the last one...........
DeleteMay God bless PBAT ooo. But the way and manner ge talked about the supsidy is not right. Knowing who Nigerians are.
ReplyDeleteAs at today., fuel is N600.
It is not the way and manner he talked about it. It's the manner your heardsmedia reported it!
DeleteFirst of all, Festus Keyamo is no longer the Minister of State for Labour and Employment.
ReplyDeleteTo the issue at hand, Festus should not take us for a fool. Tinubu said in clear terms "Subsidy is gone" and we heard him right. The issue is, removing subsidy is not the problem because it's longed over due but the manner in which it is done is what matters. You don't just wake up and take such a huge decision without first putting polices and measures in place and introducing palliatives that will help cushion the effects it will cause on the masses. At least he should have given a 3 months notice so that Nigerians and marketers can have time to prepare and adjust. Keyamo is only coming out to do damage control because of the negative feedback that came with it. Tinubu started on the wrong foot and time will tell how many more blunder he will make.
Where is the 800 million dollars given to Nigerian government to cushion the impact of this fuel subsidy removal?
ReplyDeleteFestus Keyamo tell us about the money in the government you served.
Have you guys embezzle the money already? I saw the speed your principal was on a borrowing spree few days to handing over. Meanwhile this is the news for some unfortunate being that will want to dispute what I'm saying.
''Nigeria has secured an $800 million relief package from the World Bank to help cushion the impact of a plan to remove in June a long-held fuel subsidy.
Nigeria's finance minister, Zainab Ahmed, on Wednesday said the money would be disbursed to 10 million households as cash. She said authorities would also develop a mass transit system to ease the cost of daily commutes.
Ahmed made the announcement to journalists at the state house after a weekly Cabinet meeting with officials.
She said the money was ready to be disbursed but did not provide details on how much beneficiaries would receive.
"We're on course,” she told the local station TVC News. “We made that provision to enable us [an] exit fuel subsidy by June 2023. We've secured some funding from the World Bank. That is the first tranche of the palliatives that would enable us to give cash transfers to the most vulnerable in our society."
Ahmed said authorities were also working with the incoming government to deploy non-cash interventions, including a mass transportation system to ease daily commutes for workers.''
APC, always talking before thinking! My hope is built on God alone.
ReplyDeleteKeyamo first is an ungrateful being, who now shifts blame to the government he just left.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he's the presidential spokesman.
Easy does it or else, oga you will state be assistant minister that you were lamenting or non self.
Did he lie? Is the last government denying something they obviously did? Was it not known to all that this budget did have an allocation for subsidy? Were they not the ones who passed the law to remove it from the act forever? The only people still nagging are hate filled chronic complainers who are more interested in the sex lives of people they don't know than current affairs that actually affect them. This end of subsidy has been the reality in law for over nine months and June brought it to effect. Nigeria is broke. Even Peter your are blindly following says there is no way out asides ending subsidy and borrowing.
DeleteKeyamo should go and sit down. Enough of notice me. You are a Lawyer, go and open your chambers, stop misinterpreting what BAT said for us. You are not the President or his spokes person. Enough of all this your gra-gra.
ReplyDeleteDebunk the facts he presented instead of reacting like a motor park tout. As a citizen, he has the right of engagement.
DeleteSome time last month or early this month, the government extended the provision for subsidy in the supplimentary budget. The president has made a mistake in his inauguration speech. Keyemo accept that. I know you are trying to defend your principal
ReplyDeleteIt's well
ReplyDeleteThere is two APc one for worst former president Buhari ad now Tunbu because the last time I check the new APC ad old APC have one political manifest
ReplyDeleteThe deed is done, govt should disburse mitigating factors asap. Vouchers, fuel supply, whatever. You can't just remove something you know will cause hardship without any cushions for the populace.
