Pinky's CORNER

‎I wrote about a single mum who hawks (she sells food) with the help of her son after close of school or so. When she came to sell for someone beside my shop, I called her to inform her that, i would like to be taking the boy on extra lesson for free.

‎Fast forward to 2weeks after, I gave the boy 3days in a week and time(Meaning, he stopped hawking with the mum). I teach him mondays, Wednesdays and fridays between the hour of 4pm to 6pm and whenever I've customer to attend to or busy, I'll jut extend his time. More so, whenever I noticed I will be traveling, what i do is have his class consecutively so as not to fail my promises.

‎Something great happened yesterday. I never knew yesterday was their graduation/ end of session party. I was just sitting in shop looking like frog wey never see food chop for 3days as sales no dey at all when she walked in with her son. The mother went on her knees to thank me. I stood up immediately to stop her from doing such. She said her boy has never won any prize in school but he did for the first time. He won the 2nd best in mathematics, the best in Basic Tech, Agric and Basic Science for 3rd term (Note: not overal ooo cuz overall will be calculated by adding all marks in each subject divided by 3).

‎The mum gave me a brand new half shoe which I've once priced some months ago for 17k,so, definitely she would have bought it for 20k plus. I was so emotional because I never expected the gift. I was just doing mine for God because I know what I went through and how God made me had an interest in schooling.

Some of my old time friends ended up at the garage and I've once or twice met them and each time we meet, i look back and thank God. Then at Ereko comprehensive high school obalende before crossing to Falomo high School, my friends and I no dey stay for class and our parents never came to check up on us to know if truly we got to school. We leave home and straight to where we play around till closing time.

‎I have no silver nor gold but What I've, I'll give and will make sure I give back to the society in my little way. I have just adopted another boy, who is presently going to Jss3(he repeated jss2 twice from info I gathered from him directly). Because of this, I've just bought a medium white board 3weeks ago.

I'm not ready to do it for money, I want it free and I won't stress myself by taking up more than 3 or maximum of 4. Once I'm done with hem, they can now teach others whenever I bring them in and I'm limiting it to just Junior classes pending the time I meet anyone who has same mindset then we can now extend it to Senior classes but it will be a limited number to make teaching and learning effective.

‎The gift made me so so emotional and can't stop thanking the boy's mum. The tutorial is not stopping any time soon because I find joy in teaching. Not until we've millions before we can play our part or give back to the society. I want to build future problem solver and not adult that will cause problem.

‎Ire ooooooo

  4. Waoow, this is really cute, God bless you.
Teaching is sweet especially when you see the effectiveness on your student. I was teaching a neighbour's child last year, I got moved to teach this boy, when I heard at 15 he couldn't read.
I thought him for 6 months and I was proud to see that he can now read and spell even speaks English to some extent, so I understand you.
I also can't forget the unexpected alert I get from his dad sometimes. I told the parents I was going to teach him free but the father was kind enough ๐Ÿ˜Š

  10. I honestly was wondering what a half shoe was, thanks for sending the photo๐Ÿ™‚

What a great turnaround in the child. Who knows what path you have set him on in life now. The self-confidence he now has and the rewards has totally changed his selfview. I’m sure he now believes in himself and any dream he nurtures that it can be a reality.

This was such a beautiful read and a living testament that every child can excel, and a small investment can yield a great reward. Momsy will now prioritize her child’s education and make sure he is in school no matter the need, he may never have to hawk again. I wish him a bright and glorious future.
