The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the commencement of electioneering campaigns for political parties participating in the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections. According to the directive, campaigns are allowed to resume on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and terminate at midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has raised the alarm that the abuse and poor handling of naira banknotes are significantly increasing the cost of printing and replacing them. The warning came on Wednesday during the launch of a nationwide sensitisation campaign on proper naira handling, held in Abuja.

Five members of the same family were discovered unconscious in their home at Akaajime community, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, on Wednesday, with one confirmed dead. The victims – a mother and her four children – were found in a coma before neighbours rushed them to a private hospital in Gboko. One of the children, a four-year-old boy, was reported dead before help arrived.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA is proposing mandatory drug integrity tests for drivers seeking licences. The NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa disclosed this in a goodwill message at the National Summit of the Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC on Wednesday in Abuja.
