The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said more governors in the country will join the party ahead of the 2027 general election. During an expanded stakeholders’ meeting and endorsement for President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the state capital, Yilwatda stated that because Tinubu has done well, more governors and Senators have abandoned their parties.

 Three people have been swept away in a heavy downpour in Zaria, Kaduna State. An eyewitness, Mustapha Badamasi, Dan Bakano of Tudun jukun, said a corpse was recovered from the flood while at least two are still missing.

 The Senate has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to return to legislative duties. In a letter signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate acknowledged receiving the senator’s notice that she planned to resume on September 4, 2025, which she said marked the end of her suspension.

 The Naira yesterday appreciated to N1,525 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,530 per dollar on Monday. Similarly, the Naira appreciated to N1,506.5 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.

The House of Representatives Committee on Land Transport has given the Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Alkali, 48 hours to appear before it over last week’s derailment of an Abuja-Kaduna train, which had 618 passengers on board. The committee issued the summon after the minister failed to attend its investigative hearing on the incident.

Nigerian Army says its troops have arrested 11 terrorist logistics suppliers and rescued nine kidnapped victims during nationwide operations conducted within 48 hours. A credible source at the Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja that the troops also seized 114 livestock, recovered N1.1m in cash, one pump-action rifle, four cartridges, petroleum products, and other items.

Tension enveloped Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area in Delta State as yet-to-be-identified gunmen abducted an Army officer from his military base in the locality. The Army officer identified simply as Lt.-Col. Josiah was said to have been abducted from his lodge as the invading gunmen fired gunshots sporadically to scare people from the base at about 2 am on Sunday.

A meeting of princes in Ipetumodu, Osun State, descended into tension on Tuesday after a member of the royal family demanded that the throne of the Apetumodu be declared vacant.
The controversy follows the conviction of Oba Joseph Oloyede, the 27th Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, who was recently sentenced in the United States to more than four years in prison over COVID-19 loan fraud. The monarch was also ordered to forfeit assets and pay over $4.4 million in restitution.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has lambasted the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for withdrawing his earlier remarks on the country’s rising debt profile.
This was contained in a statement by the party’s spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Tuesday.
Abdullahi had accused the National Assembly of complicity in Nigeria’s growing debt crisis under President Bola Tinubu.
The Speaker raised the alarm that Nigeria’s rising debt profile has exceeded the country’s legal threshold and now posed a major threat to fiscal sustainability.
The Speaker thereafter withdrew the remarks.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged the Nigerian Senate to immediately reinstate Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and allow her to resume legislative duties.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday.
SERAP said the Kogi Central lawmaker’s suspension, which started in March, has ended and should not be extended under any pretext.
