President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, made the declaration on Tuesday during the 55th session of the Mediation and Security Council at the ministerial level in Abuja.
The meeting was convened in response to a series of coups and failed mutinies affecting countries in the sub-region.
Touray said the developments highlight the “imperative of serious introspection on the future of our democracy and the urgent need to invest in the security of our community.”

DeleteYes, because bad military boys want to make money. The difference is that they won't need to share it, lose elections or earn votes . You constantly wish to have worse lives and pretend to be shocked with the way your lives are going. MKO and his supporters wished the same in 1993. The boys he invited came with his body bag. When importers of biscuits compare your lives to that of Malaysians, they forget the impact of thoughtless authoritarian régimes they wish on dolts who are not thinking. What was Muritala's offense? Was Sarduana perceived by his northern voters as incompetent? Was Aguiyi Ironsi given a chance to work? Did the coup plotters of the 70s and 80s across Africa achieve anything substantial? Can you compare economic indices then to now? Can you compare growth of commercial hubs like Lagos, Accra even Kampala and Kigali despite their problems. Because subsidy was removed on day one as you wanted, the continent must be set alight.
DeleteRead, you won't read. You'll rather waste time nagging.
Keep declaring state of emergency while leading your individual countries poorly, military will keep showing their faces

ReplyDeleteThe exact mistake Benin made (state capture and strangulation of democracy) is what Nigerian government is making. The people cannot be docile forever
