I'm happy mathematics isn't much of a big deal for me. I'm definitely above average.
But I'm sure my children will be Mathematics gurus. English will be a walkover for them. Sure!

    1. It was in Uni that I started understanding this.English that I used to love started looking complicated, they will give you rules and tell you that there are exceptions to the rule while Maths follows its formula

  6. I have come to realize that this mathematics thing is a unique gift from God because I look at my neighbors child and the way she solves any maths questions given to her from school and am always amazed.

  9. There is something wrong with how most teachers teach math and that is the problem. What I have discovered is that there is no real explanation of what you are trying to accomplish with the maths you are learning. Students do not understand the purpose and how the knowledge will lead to any real practical application to life. With every other subject there is clear knowledge of purpose and application. How can learning about calculating angles in different shaped objects be useful? How can algebra be used to develop critical thinking and problem solving in all areas of life? Newton showed up with his apple to demonstrate his findings, yet a math teacher is drawing a shape on the board, draw the shape but bring in a physical object to demonstrate with too. How many children are seeing trapezoids in their everyday life? Mtsscchhwww

Mathematics is a divine creation used to create balance in the universes. All the planets would bump into each other without proper distance, that is math. Our own bodies could not function properly without the attention to good measurement and joint placement; so math creates order and balance in everything, from how cars run, to how a skyscraper stay up, and how a plane remains flying and land over and over again. But the majority of mathematics teachers do not know how to properly convey any of this, the meaning behind it or how to use the knowledge of math to apply to life. The entire way math is taught from kindergarten onwards needs to be overalled. It should not be taught as something out there or mysterious, but as something we are all intimately connected to, and the real story of our existence, galaxy, and the universe.

    2. I can't agree less. Unfortunately, that was how most of our academic fathers and forefathers were taught Mathematics, so they passed it on, hence the 'myth' behind the subject being too 'difficult' to understand. Some even believe that one must have a 'super brain' to understand mathematics-No! Anyone can understand with a good foundation.

Another problem with most Maths Teachers is that they become too engrossed with the subject, neglect other departments of their lives, including social lives, become so unkempt, maintain some staunch principles to the extent of having 'headaches' and going 'crazy'!

Moreover, mathematicians use symbols or notations to connote what happens in real world to represent abstractions. These notations could be just Greek letters or even just the Initials of any named object!

As a Maths instructor, you can't translate theory to real life until you understand the in-depth and interprete to yourself, then suitably and relatably to your audience-in a friendly way.

Fortunately, things are changing, the exact and universal nature of Mathematics makes it applicable in nearly all fields of human endeavours. A lot needs to be done to achieve an enviable height, particularly in this part of the world.

  10. I will never forget Mr. Tayo(NYSC ) that was posted to kings comprehensive college mkar in the year 1989 for his primary assignment as our maths tutor where ever you are may God continue to bless you Sir He made i and almost everyone in our class (ie form one) maths guru. Today am not just a maths person but also bring the
further one, physic, chemistry I go chop am , and guess what my wife is even better than me and we made our kids inherit it from us
Sometimes it makes me feel some how when I hear people complain of how difficult maths is as a subject, the truth is that remove the fear and see how easy it is. If you can master the multiplication table from 1-12 you are set to go cause that's the basic and foundation of mathematics
