Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo Confirms Old Lagos Airport Terminal Will Be Demolished After Fire
A fire broke out at around 3pm on Monday, February 23, 2026, in the IT server room of the old Terminal 1 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Emergency crews contained the blaze by evening, rescued people including some from the control tower, and treated several injured passengers and staff.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo inspected the site and confirmed the badly damaged terminal which was already slated for replacement will be demolished, with a temporary facility readied to minimise disruption.
