God got Israel out of Egypt in one day, but it took forty years to get the shame of Egypt out of Israel. It happened at a place called Gilgal, a few hundred kilometres north-east of Egypt. The Israelites thought like slaves and acted like slaves. After all, it's tough to break the cycle after four hundred years of slavery. Technically, the Israelites were set free at the exodus. But it wasn't until they reached Gilgal that they finally left the past in the past. 'Then the Lord said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt"' (Joshua 5:9 NLT).
For many, it can take years to bring closure to feelings of condemnation and get the past out of the present. But the good news is that God wants to end the shame of your past. 'There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus' (Romans 8:1 NKJV). Note the word 'now'. Full forgiveness is our present-tense reality. Right here. Right now.
If you are in Christ, you're no longer defined by what you've done wrong; you're defined by what Jesus has done right on your behalf. You are a new creation, but sometimes it takes time for your new nature to become second nature. Jesus came to put the past in its place - in the past. You need to leave it there. How do you do that? By seeing yourself as God sees you - righteous (see 2 Corinthians 5:21). Instead of seeing yourself as clothed in shame, begin to see yourself as God sees you: clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

ReplyDeleteThe devil and his demons disturb people in different ways, one of which is through oppression.
Pharaoh commanded his people to deal wisely with Israelites because he didn't want them to increase. He oppressed them in different ways to prevent them from rising.
A man shared a testimony of how he suffered oppression many years ago from his Head of Department (HOD) who decided to prevent him from being promoted. The HOD took the man's file and hid it so that whenever it was time for evaluation, it would not be found. After a while, the man gave his life to Jesus, and shortly after doing so, there was a military coup, and the fallout affected some people at his workplace.
The HOD was forcefully retired, and a new HOD was appointed. When the new HOD decided to go through the files of everyone in the department, he noticed that the man's file was missing and ordered a thorough search. They searched everywhere in the office until the file was eventually found in the place where the former HOD hid it. The new HOD discovered that the man hadn't been promoted for years despite his diligence, and instantly he was promoted.
To overcome the devil's oppressions:- let's get rid of sin, allowing the spirit of God to take control over all that concerns us.

DeleteA lady that married a widower was complaining bitterly how the man kept posting his late wife pictures every time on WhatsApp status, saying he's really missing her , every day without her feels like a torture etc while married to another. The woman has been dead for almost 7 years. She said he only post her on her birthdays with few endearing words but kept posting his late wife almost every week. He doesn't post the child he had with her but post his other children, she said infact his profile picture is with the older children. The woman is feeling like a third wheel and she's thinking of moving out of the marriage although she said he takes very good care of her at home, that he hardly talk about the late wife at home and he actually really happy with her and her child at home but always crying online about his late wife.
