Singer Iyanya has revealed his ongoing struggle with celibacy, and admitted that the decision to stay celibate hasn’t been easy, especially when faced with temptation.
In a candid interview on the Afropolitan Podcast, he shared how his commitment fluctuates, often slipping when he meets someone he’s drawn to.
“My celibacy fluctuates, it goes up and down,” he said. “You meet this girl and everything about her tells you, ‘Why are you celibate?’ You do what you have to do, then you start missing the celibacy again.”
He emphasized that honesty has become his coping tool and he now tells potential partners upfront that he’s healing and not ready for emotional commitment. He reflected on past relationships and the pain of being vulnerable as a public figure.
“It’s one of the hardest things to become committed… I’ve been committed severally as a famous guy and it always hurts.”
He also spoke about the pressure of fame, noting how romantic partners sometimes threaten to expose private issues to blogs.
After 17 years in the industry, Iyanya says he’s focused on having fun and protecting his emotional space.
“I’m human, just like you. The same problems you have, I have. You date somebody, you have issues, and they threaten you with going to the blogs. How do you balance that?”

DeleteI sincerely wish him all the best. I hope he can commit to his celibacy so God can send him his missing rib and he can be whole. All the chasing and swapping of bodily fluids does not bring peace. May 2026 be a year of transformation for you, Iyanya.
