Orion is on course for a “fireball” descent, hitting the atmosphere at about 24,000 mph with heat‑shield temperatures expected near 5,000°F.
Splashdown is set for Friday evening in the Pacific off San Diego, where recovery teams are already in position. The crew is reportedly positive as they prepare for one of the mission’s riskiest phases.
They took off on April 1, 2026, when NASA launched Artemis II from Kennedy Space Center.
