Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has said he will not contest in the 2027 presidential election, citing fairness and the need to allow the South complete its turn.
Saraki explained that his decision is based on the principle of political balance between the North and South.


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has opposed plans by the federal government and the UK to establish Coventry University in Nigeria.
ASUU President, Christopher Piwuna, said the move is unacceptable, describing it as “another form of colonialism.” He noted that while Nigerian students face visa restrictions to study in the UK, British universities want to operate in Nigeria and “take our money.”
Piwuna stressed that Nigerian universities should be strengthened instead of allowing foreign institutions to dominate.

President Tinubu on Tuesday held separate closed-door meetings with former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and former Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar at Aso Villa.
Details of the meeting, however, are yet to emerge.

The Nigerian Senate has approved the request of President Bola Tinubu to go for external loans totalling $6 billion.
The approval is coming barely four hours after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter from the President, seeking the approval.
The red chamber of the National Assembly approved the loans after the presentation and consideration of a report by the Senator Aliyu Wamakko-led Committee on Local and Foreign Debts.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party (LP), a move that has stirred reactions within the National Assembly.
Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, formally announced his defection during plenary on Tuesday following the House’s resumption.
Reading his letter on the floor, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, said the lawmaker attributed his exit from the APC to lingering internal crises within the party.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared three seats in the 10th Senate vacant following the deaths of the lawmakers representing those districts. Announcing the development during Tuesday’s plenary, he said the decision is in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and will enable INEC to conduct midterm elections. The affected seats are Enugu North (Enugu State), Nasarawa North (Nasarawa State), and Rivers South‑East (Rivers State).

Saidu Ahmed Alkali has resigned from his position as Minister of Transportation to pursue his governorship ambition in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alkali announced his resignation after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
A circular confirming the development was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed rumours of his resignation, stating that he remains fully part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The clarification was issued through his Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, who emphasized that Adelabu has not stepped down and continues to carry out his duties in the power sector.

Eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have officially defected from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), announcing their move during Tuesday’s plenary at the National Assembly. The lawmakers,Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Garba Ibrahim Diso, Hassan Shehu Hussain, Idris Dankawu, Muhammad Chiroma Nalaraba, Barr. Rabiu Yusuf, Dr Ghali Mustapha Tijjani and Barr. Muhammad Bello Shehu, formalized their switch in the presence of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and other party leaders.

  1. A lot of things so annoying with our country. Completely in agreement with ASUU President. Strengthen what you have first,haba mana🤷🏻
    Universities are still struggling, so many looking like glorified secondary schools . Look at the restrictions they are giving to foreign students especially from Nigeria . We wanna keep on licking their asses...?
