Nigerian Govt Replaces NYSC Khaki With Adire Fabric In New Scheme Reform

NYSC without Khaki and boots???? Just scrap it!!!

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a major overhaul of the NYSC, starting with the replacement of the long‑used khaki uniform with Adire fabric. Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande said the change is part of reforms to modernise the scheme and promote comfort, professionalism, and Nigerian culture.

Adire, a traditional Yoruba tie‑dye cloth, will now serve as the official uniform for corps members.
Other reforms include:

A civilian Director‑General
A six‑week orientation focused on business and digital skills
A formal graduation ceremony instead of the passing‑out parade
The Tinubu administration approved the updates to better prepare young graduates for work and national development

  3. Hmm what's all of these ? I dont think this is a good development.

    Maybe it should be changed to skills acquisition program at this point.

  4. How would people be able to distinguish between youth coppers wearing adire from non youth coppers wearing adire

  5. The only good thing about the NYSC was actually the uniform! Changing our beloved national anthem was not enough for them, they have decided on this one too!

    If I say what I want to say now, y’all will say I’m insulting the government and their supporters

  6. Let them test it and see how it goes. The only constant in life is change. None of these changes appear to be bothersome on the surface.

    2. Exactly. Took the words right out of mouth. Somebody’s wife or mother probably produces adire hence the shift. It is well well fold our hands and watch. God help us in Nigeria. Why is this a priority for God’s sake? Why?

    Sure let’s promote local business

    1. Then in that order, adire must not be imposed on every serving youth corp member. Corp members should wear the native outfits of whatever part of Nigeria they’re from since it’s now a “promotion of native business”… or do you think other ethnic groups do not have their own cultural outfit “native business”?? Sebi all of them up there are stupid? Let’s all be stupid together then. Clueless and incompetent regime.

  11. I thought NYSC was concieved as a unifying scheme for Nigeria. Is adire not South West cultural outfit. So all the other tribes in Nigeria will now be swallowed.
    Na now Nigeria get president.

    3. Akwaoche

      Akwa = Cloth
      Oche = Chair
      That means Akwaoche is translated as "Cloth used for chair" or "Cloth for making chair".

      Anon 22:14, your spelling is wrong. It's Akwa oche, not what you wrote.

    I'm glad I served when I did many years ago.

    They are about to scatter this scheme.

    This scheme was good while it lasted. It mixed us up. People moving out of their comfort zones and getting to know places they Only read about in books or novels

  19. MY NYSC YEAR:
    some of the drilling made me the woman I am today. UNN prep me for life and youth service made me stronger.

    It taught me waking up early whether raining or cold.

    Surviving mode, Healthy competition, reflecting life, handling rejection and so many others.

    Don’t change the khaki and don’t scrap it. It has its place in our society.

    Most Nigerians who live abroad, are handling racism well because of NYSC drilling. Their assertiveness, self awareness /advocacy and cultural dependence all contribute to their success abroad.

    We are hated all over the world. Teach our children strength so they can face any problem that confronts them in the future.

  26. When something meant for national unity decides to use the fabric of one tribe as it's dress code,it's a sign that it has outlived it's usefulness.Scrap it,pay that money to fresh graduates for 12 months and let them figure out their lives on time

    1. You’re welcome dear. Akwa oche means fabrics for chair as akwa means clothes/fabrics and oche means chairs. But Akwa Ocha means white clothings/fabrics. The types you see the Obi of Onitsha, Anieocha and some Igbo brides wearing. The usual graceful white regalia on royalties wears, the white regalia the Iyoms wears, the usual alluring beautiful white outfits the Anioma people or the Igbo brides wears.

  31. If they are hell bent on changing the attire, they should have different ethnic attires for different weeks, and not just adire.
