Investigations showed Yusuf absconded from his unit and travelled to Maiduguri on July 7, 2026, where he went into hiding. He was reportedly sheltered at Gomari Costain, Jere LGA, by 25NA/89/12687 Private Baba Kamal Sale of the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops placed Yusuf under 24‑hour surveillance and arrested him at Jidari Bus Stop as he allegedly attempted to flee to Cameroon.
Makama said Yusuf is in custody undergoing further interrogation over the alleged supply of military accoutrements to terrorist elements and the possible involvement of other collaborators. He described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle insider networks aiding violent extremist groups responsible for severe harm and loss of lives in the region.
