Truly, people have been asking if I charge phones and power banks, but the risk is high. Boys can walk in one day and collect all the phones at gunpoint. It has happened before. Someone who tried that business ended up in serious trouble igbese upon igbese and eventually stopped.
Not long after, some boys came asking for a charger. I went inside to attend to them, but their behaviour immediately triggered my instinct. Two of them kept distracting me while the other kept asking for different chargers, saying “NOT THIS ONE,” each time forcing me to go inside again.
That was when I understood the tactic.
I quietly picked my POS bag and held it with me. Then I told them I didn’t have what they were looking for. Their mission failed.
Unknown to me, someone had been watching from afar. When they left, the woman walked up to me and asked if they stole anything. I told her no. She said those boys are known for distracting shop owners and stealing. I had never seen them before.
That was when my friend finally understood why I refused to add phone‑charging to my business.
My advice for all small. Know this and know peace.
*Not all business idea worth the risk .
*Trust your instincts because it's your first security guard.
*Community intelligence save lives.
*Business isn't about making more money but staying alive to spend the money though, sometimes, the best business decision is the one you didn't take.
*Don't go to the back room and leave counter open.
Lastly, in business, PROFIT must never be greater than your SAFETY.

One has got to be smart and streetwise in some certain businesses, and I totally agree with you on the charging of phone thing, the location too needs to be considered.

ReplyDeletein business, PROFIT must never be greater than your SAFETY. We should know this.
ReplyDeletePut the charging point outside the shop with a lock and put in bold customer is responsible for their own phone
ReplyDeleteWhen someone pays to charge, open the lock and let them charge and watch their own phone
Figure out how to put a box around the charging port. There are carpenters all over Naija
Pinky business own its own is kinda risky. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you gain. All you need is courage.
ReplyDeleteFor that kind business, environment/location matters.
Our instincts is our watch dog.
