Plateau State Gov Caleb Mutfwang Declares Hisbah Activities Illegal In The State And Orders Arrests

Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has declared the activities of Hisbah, an Islamic religious police group, illegal in the state.

His press aide, Gyang Bere, said the governor ordered security agencies to stop the group’s activities in parts of Jos North.
The order followed reports that the group was intimidating, harassing and extorting residents, as well as making rules without legal authority.
Mutfwang said Plateau has one constitution, one legal system and one lawful authority. He said no group can exercise powers that the law does not give it.

Security agencies have been asked to identify and investigate those involved, including anyone supporting or funding the group.
The governor said the order is not against any religion, ethnic group or community.
