I enjoy political discourse and love good politics, but I don't see myself in politics or governance. Politics in Nigeria is not a walk in the park. It comes with a whole lot of battles that will either make you or break you. I have respectable friends in politics whom I engage in discussions and share opinions with constructively, even though they only agree with what they want to believe.
Growing up, I held administrative positions in the Young Catholic Students, Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria, and various social clubs and committees. I also travelled across Nigeria as president of the mentioned organizations and associations for conferences, conventions, and summits. The Jos National Conference, Abuja Convention, and Lagos Summit are still fresh in my mind. After I turned 30, I stepped back from active organizational activities. I know the politics in those organizations and clubs can't compare to that of a council, local government, state, or the federation. But they built leadership and administrative qualities in me.
With all that exposure, I still made a conscious decision not to delve into Nigerian politics with all its shenanigans. Looking at what politics is today, one can only imagine the troubles that come with it. Politics in Nigeria and beyond isn't for the weak. I want a private, peaceful life with my family. No fear of scandals and accusations. No fear of political assassination. Just family, friends, work and business.
So I'll say it plainly. I have no intention of going into local politics. A political appointment? Maybe. But I'm not certain about that.
