Customs officers on duty quickly tried to put out the fire themselves. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived about 10:45 a.m. and helped bring the situation under control.
Deputy Comptroller of Customs Timothy Jonah had just resumed duty at the command that day to take over from his predecessor. He called the incident unfortunate.
