Well, some University of Lagos students slept outside a Bank last night..Please find out why...This is horrible and takes me down to memory lane when i slept twice in hall one common room in GREATEST UNIBEN.
This is horrible!
''I write this with a lot of pain in my heart
I know everyone is aware of the 'protest holiday' experienced by Unilag
After the strike was called off, we were made to sign an undertaking bla bla bla
This undertaking has ripped us of our rights as squatters are no longer allowed into the hostels!!
The worst part is that most of these squatters, it's not like they can't afford money for bed space but there are not enough hostels in school that's why they squat and then some of them live outside Lagos.
Not only that, those who bought space are no longer allowed into the hostel.
Imagine someone buying a bed space in say Moremi Hall for 120k and the person is not allowed into the Hall because she is not a 'bonafide'. This is really not fair!!
If I can afford to buy a bedspace for as low as 70k what's preventing me from paying 25k (the actual amount of bedspace)
Stella, since on Monday because of this 'hindrance' most students sleep outside.
I'm attaching a picture to this message showing you that some students actually slept in front of a bank last night
Please, I know there are people who visit this Blog, who can help this situation, please please please help this situation if you can
God bless!''
FROM CONCERNED UNILAG STUDENT
*OMG...I can see some ladies on the floor as well.how will they handle their hygiene?
Kai,what is Nigeria turning into?
ReplyDeleteStella it's true .. My frnds slept outside yesterday under the rain .. And there was a blackout .. Some slept in the faculty , church while some bank entrance ... It's not funny .. They can't be coming from home because exams commence on Monday .. Most are not even living in Lagos.. Please help us beg d management to pardon us... I couldn't sleep cos my frnds are suffering . Mind you , this girls are from rich homes oo and they can afford to pay any amount of they actually got hostel... The management has tagged squatters as criminals that sells drugs and according to d management they are not legitimate student . Imagine!!!! Unilag fear God .. My Frnd was on her period and she couldn't enter to change .. All their belongings are in d hostel ...,
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand what d problem is
ReplyDeleteWhat do u mean by paying for bed space? *kinda confuse*
Are unilag students prohibited from staying off camp?
If no then y go through d stress?
Y'all should go stay off camp
Besides most uni dont allow squatters yet still they aren't enough space.
So it's basically on a 1st come 1st serve basis
Bt 1st yr students were given preferential treatment though
Anyway,i never stayed in a sch hostel all through my year in sch so I obviously wouldn't understand.
Whatever d case is...sleeping in front of banking hall isn't safe
I think getting a room outside the school will be too expensive for most students.
DeleteNo one is saying Unilag students are prohibited from staying outside school... Do you know most students come from average homes and can't afford the rent for off campus
DeleteOh, most students don't like the idea of staying outside school too... School should be lenient with their students
Do u know how much for a room outside the school? Don't go there o
DeleteLord have mercy!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is Unilag turning into? It's really not fair at all. *sad face*
That's UBA Atm's room. Very close to the Students Affairs Office. This country is f**ked!!!
I think that's gt bank tho
DeleteUnilag vc Rahman bello is an evil man ... So heartless ... Upon all d plea ... After signing our death warrant .. They are still treating us like shit ..... May you die of heartattack in that office .. Stupid man
ReplyDeleteMuslims are Evil
DeleteThis is very bad, what's the school authority have to say about this?
ReplyDelete*Larry was here*
Serves them right
ReplyDeleteI hope they hv learned their lesson. Next time they will face their books. And stop protesting unnecessarily
ReplyDeleteReally, who told u they protested Mr? They only asked for water (imagine u buying bag of water to bath everyday)..I'm sure you don't have anyone in this situation, that why u can say dis. Really sad.
DeleteI feel their pain. For 2 sessions in unilag didn't have an hostel to myself was always squating and always at the mercy of the porters. Too much suffering in this country
ReplyDeleteSo sad
ReplyDeleteThat's school life jare
ReplyDeleteSee this one!
DeleteYou go school?
Monkey ask your ape of a father.
DeleteY am I even replying a monkey like you?
I'm totally speechless.
ReplyDeleteNa wah oh!..
ReplyDeleteAnd Buhari and Ambode are not doing anything about it..
Suffering and smilling nonsense!,..
Foolish stupid change my ass!...
no idiot should come under my comment and tell me not to mention Buhari's name...
Mention his name jare. Clueless human being. To cook a decent pot of stew these days, one needs like one third of the minimum wage. Everything item's price in the market is sky rocketing, yet salaries remain the same. The man is just so daft. Clueless. Later he'll tell the people he feels their pain. How can he feel the people's pain from his comfy state house.
DeleteIf his Fulani brothers attack any Igbo community again, I'll know if that is what the change is really really all about. Buhari should warn his brothers. Grazing reserve ko, grazing bill ni. Rubbish.
For hostel accommodations?
DeleteReally? Buhari for hostel accommodation? I'm sure Buhari is also responsible for your lack of sense.
DeleteMamacitA, buhari is not market/market regulatory agencies.
DeleteThe presidency / executive is responsible for the state of affairs of his country. That's why a responsible leader takes responsibility for any lapse in administration.
DeleteThis is bad o! I pray they get help soon
ReplyDeleteLet us end this injustice. Someone should fight for this kids. We ain't in North Korea.
ReplyDeleteYes o, just yesterday they sent an asthmatic girl out bcos she's a squatter. This girl was shaking she went to the medical center and they brought her back in an ambulance, the medical personnel begged, people from alpha base begged, security from the main gate begged still they did not allow the girl in...this is what unilag students are going through.
ReplyDeleteStay off campus then, ah ah.
ReplyDeleteStay @ bariga, pako, onike.. share your room with a fellow student... shuo.
Unilag spoilt you people abeg. Bunch of brats na it full there. Go to other schools and see suffering. They try to provide for all first year and final year students... the rest ballot. it is by luck!!! Must you stay in the hostels? Always trying to paint the school black.
Buying and selling of bed space is illegal every where in the world. Squatting is illegal. That something has been done for years doesn't make it right. Nonsense.
@ Stella, so you slept in the common room twice and you are complaining? I slept in the common room sometimes for 1 week @ a stretch cos I had assignments and term papers to finish... mosquitoes bit me like there was no tomorrow. The internet never got to my room so I had to use the common room. I never sent you report or. Complained. Leaves these children abeg.
Apartments in Lagos is very expnsv ... Especially around dia yaba... Most classes are 8am . Which is why student prefer squatting in halls
DeleteAbi o...
DeleteLeave*
DeleteNo more cooking stew at home until tomatoes improved. Buhari and ambode helep unilag students o
ReplyDeleteOhh. This is sad.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of reasons why the country will continue to produce half baked graduate.
ReplyDeleteHow are they suppose to learn and study in this unconducive environment?
The Minister of education should intervene ASAP.
Why not get accommodation outside school, I don't get?
ReplyDeleteEven if it's 1room around Bariga, Yaba side.
Though wat d sch authorities did is wrong, but so can especially women be sleeping out.
This is a matter of safety now, pls remember you can get raped n catch a disease. Vc go just say sorry o.
Ooh please. The moment we stop being sentimental about things, the better for us. It is ILLEGAL to buy/sell bedspace in the school, if the school decides to enforce this rule, it is nobody's fault but yours that you had to sleep outside in the cold. It is common knowledge that squatting is illegal. Sort yourself out with accommodation outside school, they are quite a few cheap options that students don't want to consider because as bad as they claim the hostels are, they are still quite convenient compared to living off-campus. The nerve to complain on the Internet after breaking a school rule that can lead to rustication.
ReplyDeleteWhich way Nigeria???
ReplyDeleteIf students are willing and able to pay up to 80k for a bed space in a room that is going to be shared with at least 3 other persons, why can't three students come together and rent a room around bariga?from bariga, transportation to inside the campus is 50 naira.if you have an early morning lecture or school dey hungry you to stay, leave your house by 6:30am and you can go home before 9pm when the campus shuttle buses stop working.they won't be chased out of the hostels during holidays and breaks.Only 100level students should be provided with accommodation because they are still green horns.
ReplyDeleteSelling of hostel spaces should be taken as an integrity issue and a punishable crime. If you don't need it,then reject it when it is given to you so there will be more rooms for those who need them.
Only in Naija.
ReplyDelete120k for bed space?
ReplyDeleteWon't I go and rent a place outside school.
Maybe accommodation off campus is expensive.
But you should look for a roommate so you can split the rent.
Stayed off campus at Uniben and my rent wasn't up to 80k and it was a correct self-contain.
Ah, students are suffering.
A whole school like Unilag.
Said it before, students will always be at the receiving end.
What kind of country is this?
No one cares about the plight of these students.
Na wa!
You cannot compare Benin with Lagos. A self-contained apartment in the yaba/akoka area starts from 350k upwards because the area is very popular with working class people because of proximity to the offices on the Island. I really feel for these students though, as horrible as those hostels are, people are paying 120k?
Deletea.k.a EDWIN CHINEDU AZUBUKO said...
ReplyDelete.
I hate Nigeria with all my life....
.
.
***CURRENTLY IN JUPITER***
Come let me give u visa to Congo.
ReplyDeleteThis is silliness on the part of the students. A 3 bed flat cannot be more than 600k around yaba, bariga etc. 2 students can share a room. This will cost each of them 100k. Is it not better than paying 120k for an illegal space?
