1- Enugu Massacre: Kudos to Ugwuanyi as govt funds Watch Group
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has assured people of Enugu that a Judicial Panel of Inquiry will be set up to investigate the provocative invasion on April 25, of Ukpabi, Nimbo community in Enugu State by over 500 dare-devil Fulani herdsmen culminating in the slaughter of 46 natives. Ugwuanyi also added that Government has moved to fund 472 Neighborhood Watch Groups in all communities in the state to compliment efforts of the security agencies to forestall a repeat of such dastardly act.
2-Four sentenced to death by hanging in Ebonyi over kidnapping, murder
Two persons, Onyemachi Oge and Okechukwu Oma were friday sentenced to death by hanging by a High court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state for kidnapping a medical doctor, Dr. Chuka Manyike in the state.
The duo alongside Chukwuemeka Levi, Idris Oken, Edeke Desmond and Ijeoma oge were accused of kidnapping Manyinke, a Doctor of Pediatrics at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki on 5th May, 2013 at his private hospital, No 15 Owerri street Abakaliki.
3- Herdsmen attack: Abia govt revives Bakassi Boys to guard rural communities
Following the raging attacks of communities across the country by Fulani Herdsmen, Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the deployment of the State’s Vigilant outfit, Bakassi Boys to all rural communities of the State.
The Governor also directed all monarchs in the State to nominate 10 youths to the Local Government Commissioner to join a planned intensive training of the Bakassi vigilante for onward deployment to the rural communities. He said that they would assist in community policing under the supervision of the police.
4- I want to go back to Sambisa to meet my husband- rescued 9-year-old girl
A nine-year-old girl who was among the 65 young girls rescued by the troops from Sambisa forest has embarked on hunger strike, saying she wanted to go back to Sambisa forest to meet her Boko Haram husband. It was gathered that the girl (name withheld) has refused to eat for the past three days insisting that she wanted to go back and reunite with her Boko Haram husband in Sambisa 12 other rescued girls were also discovered to be pregnant while others have already given birth.
5- Herdsmen: Southern leaders fault Grazing Bill
THE Southern Nigeria People’s Assembly, SNPA, said yesterday that the proposed Grazing Reserve Bill before the National Assembly is not only anachronistic and antiquated, but also an unfortunate elevation of what ought to be private commercial ventures into a national or government business.
The group in a statement by the leaders from the three South geo-political zones,
decried the raping and killing of innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen.
Lamenting the recent killings in Enugu State, Benue State and other parts of the country by the herdsmen, they said that the grazing bill portends danger to the nation. They added it will institute a source of permanent conflict in the land especially the federal structure of the country and the 1999 Constitution which vest power to hold land on the 36 states of the country and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
6- FG retains oil benchmark at $38, exchange rate at N197/US$
The Federal Government has retained major revenue assumptions in the reworked budget signed into law this morning by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In the 2016 Appropriation Bill assented to by the President, the key revenue assumptions proposed by the Executive was retained by the National Assembly.
These include the benchmark oil price of $38 per barrel, oil production volume of 2.2mbpd and exchange rate of N197/US$.
7- 2016 Budget: Saraki assures Nigerians of adequate oversight
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has commended Nigerians for their patience while awaiting presidential assent to the 2016 Appropriation Act. He promised that the National Assembly will ensure its proper implementation through diligent oversight. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday after signing the budget said the responsibility was now that of both the executive and the legislature to ensure that the objectives and goals of the budget were duly realized.
8- EFCC operatives leave Fani-Kayode’s Abuja home
Vanguard on Friday evening, gathered that gun-wielding operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, who earlier stormed the No 5, Zuma Close, off Aso Drive, Abuja home of former spokesperson of Goodluck Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign Organization and erstwhile Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, have left the place. An eye-witness who visited the scene of the siege but pleaded anonymity, said, the operatives of the anti-graft agency decided to leave when hordes of pressmen began to storm Fani-Kayode’s residence. The ex-Minister had earlier cried out friday afternoon that officials of the EFCC had surrounded his house in a text message he sent to several media organisations.
9- Pipelines bombing : FG talks tough, warns Niger Delta militants
Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd), has denounced the recent attack on oil and gas pipelines in the Niger Delta by some misguided elements, warning the masterminds of the dire consequences of their nefarious action.
The PAP coordinator, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, against the backdrop of the recent attack on the Chevron Abiteye pipeline in Delta State, said the act is condemnable as it poses grave danger not only to the region but also to the Nigerian economy.
10- Giwa storms NFF, arrested by Police
The drama in the administration of
Nigerian football took a new twist Friday
afternoon when Chris Giwa and his
group arrived the secretariat of the
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). However Giwa who arrived the NFF
about 4pm was arrested by the police
who drove him away in his SUV to the
Wuse Police Station. The Giwa group had last month secured a ruling of a Jos Federal High Court which was said to have declared them as the authentic board of the federation. As at press time it was not clear if the police had released him or not.
