Mama Tee Series - Wolves in Sheep Clothing

Wolves in sheep attire indeed!!!

One of my neighbours was hospitalised yesterday after a heart attack.

I heard he was duped by one of his uncles. The man duped him and used the money to travel out with his family. I heard the money was the proceeds from his only asset, an uncompleted building that he sold.

How can a blood relative dupe one?

Few years back, one of my close cousins approached me and told me he had secured a marketing job with an oil servicing company. He then suggested kerosene business for my mum back in the village. He told me to give him 300k. He would get a kerosene drum for her and be supplying her the commodity.

My people, I joined a monthly contribution at my place of work and raised the money. As a trusted relative, I sent it to him.

One month passed, mom said no show yet. I called him, he gave me excuses. Two months, six months, nothing. He later stopped picking my calls. Mom reported him to some elders and they called us for a family meeting.

This man denied that I gave him money.

I didn't have proof of the transaction anymore, I just handed him over to God as usual.

It was so painful, still is. I trusted him being my blood.
The issue caused a friction between his dad and my mum who are siblings.

One of my uncles was also duped in his church by an elder last year. He and his family stopped attending any church because of this. He said the elder was not punished by the church even with glaring evidence against him in court, he was still sitting at the front every Sunday. Lol.

Please be wary of that of family and friends when it comes to money matters and trust.....

  1. There's no trust when it comes to money. We all have to be careful.

  2. I can relate with mama Tee's stories. It hurts more to be duped by someone you trust. I have learnt to "trust no one" to avoid "stories that touch the heart."

  4. Relatives are worst than strangers. My mother's brother sold her land for #2,500,000 and didn't even tell her or give her a dime till she wanted to sell it and found out it was already sold. That was december last year.
And her 2 other sisters now came and were begging her to forgive and forget. I am sure he gave them inside the money that's why. And it's not like my mother doesn't give them She can do anything for them but evil will always be evil.

  6. My mom was duped by her late father!! He told her that he had a land to sell but will want it to remain in the family. my mom as beta pinkin borrowed from her women's group to purchase the land. And because he's her dad, no documents were signed but the deal was in the presence of the whole polygamious family. On his death bed, he will willed the land to his last son from another mother. When they remained him,he sold the land to his daughter,he then remembered that married women have no share in their father house. The most painful thing is my widowed mother denied herself and her children all good things of life to pay back the money borrowed. Never do biz with relatives unless there's proper documentation. Meanwhile, the last son and my mom are not talking terms till today because he accepted what is not his.

  8. Hubby employed a church member and family friend whose wife was unemployed. Twas the husband that was as begging for the job ooo. One month after employment she could not account for about 100k. She pleaded and said she would pay back. 3 months now almost 400k is no where to be found. She stopped going to work and picking calls. Hubby said they would pay back. People I am just weak to type sef. We resorted to reporting to the police. Cos every friendly way out is not working. Please avoid FF when money matters dey.

  9. This reminds me of my uncle who sold my late father's lands and told mum they were investing the money for us the children. He told her that when we grow up, we will have money to pay school fees. As I type now, my younger ones are struggling to finish school. I myself managed to scale through by doing odd jobs to add to little help from mums food business. That my uncle is living large now with his children.

I and my brother connived and defrauded our dad of more than two million naira. My dad was giving women outside money, small girls. My mum that suffered with him was driving Golf 3, my dad bought Toyota Rav 4 jeep for his girlfriend. My brother and one of his yahoo boy friends planned and we duped him, when he wants to talk to the girl in the abroad who want to bring in goods, they will use me, I will change my voice. I was happy when I saw him lamenting

The man didn't even tell his wife(my sis) that he borrowed money from my hubby. My hubby has left him to God..let him be the judge.

  12. You are so right mama Tee, we should beware of people close to us when it involves money. is it not in this blog that we read about a pastor that ran away with a church member's 10 million naira . The man wanted him to pray for him before he starts a business with the money. The pastor said he should go and bring the money that he was instructed by God to pray on the cash for 3 days before he use it. By the time the man went back on the third day, pastor's house was empty. I can never forget that story.

  16. Eeeeeeh, I can so relate ooooh, personally, I don't do business or lend money to family or friends.
I either 'dash'the money to the person because I don't have strength for long grammar.
But 'If'i ever need to partner with a relative it will be duly be executed.

    Interesting narrative as always,Mama Tee.
