Woman Files For Divorce After 40 Days Because Husband Is Too Stingy..

A 30-year-old woman filed for divorce from her 32-year-old husband after only 40 days of marriage on grounds that he is “so stingy” that he refused to buy her a shawarma sandwich on their first and only outing as a married couple.

Speaking before a Family Court in Zananiri, Egypt, the young woman, known only as Sameeha, said the shawarma incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

She had married Ahmed, a teacher, after only knowing him for two months, which apparently wasn’t long enough for her to realise how incredibly stingy he was.

However, his frugal nature became very obvious right after their traditional wedding.

On their first day of marriage, Ahmed allegedly told his wife that he hated going out because he viewed it as a waste of money. She didn’t pay much attention to his words then, but things got worse with each passing day.

Sameeha told the judge presiding over her divorce case that despite having a good job and tutoring students in his free time, Ahmed adopted an extremely frugal lifestyle, even when it came to food.

When he left for work, he always checked how much bread was left, and one time, when Sameeha ate a loaf of it in his absence, he told her that she was to eat only rice and macaroni until the weekend.

The young woman told her family about Ahmed’s stinginess but they said it wasn’t a cause for concern and advised her to be patient, that her husband would change in time. They were wrong.

“My husband is too stingy to even speak; when I ask him to talk to me, I end up talking to myself most of the time,” the woman said, trying to explain how thrifty Ahmed could be.

But the incident that finally convinced Sameeha that she needed to get a divorce occurred 40 days into her marriage to Ahmed.

She begged him to take her out for a drink so she could get some fresh air, and he reluctantly agreed. But when she asked for a shawarma sandwich, he flat out refused, saying that they had only gone out for a drink, not food.

“He accused me of using him to order sandwiches and juice in one day,” Sameeha said before the court.

“When my husband refused to buy me the shawarma sandwich, I was angry, and he continued to blame me while we were in the car, calling me a hypocrite and saying that going out had been a mistake.”

Sameeha couldn’t take it anymore, so she returned to her parents and filed for divorce.

She told the judge that she couldn’t go on living with her ‘sick’ husband.

The case is currently in an Egyptian court.

    2. I once dated someone like this; he couldn't pick or drop me from my house as he complained of the cost of fuel. A senior staff with a bank! She's even lucky; my ex would ask if you are hungry before taking you out as he expects you to only order for a drink and not food. Tufiakwa!!!

  5. Hahahahaha...dis is funny but there are a lot of naija men who behave exactly like that. I hate stingy men. I dated a guy who checks the quantity of yam I slice wen ever I come over for the weekend. He's always dictating to me what size of rice to measure and which particular soup to warm( he's in the habit of cooking different kinds of soups and stews that will take him a whole month). Oboy, I run o, cos he was talking marriage.

    1. Sorry, that one isn't stingy. He probably lives on a budget. And when you live on a budget, you scientifically (maths) scale how to spend, what you cook. So cooking for a whole week and buying in buck or weighing your grain let you know how long those foods will last you for. It helps you manage waste and save money. If you say he counted the amount of yam you eat, then I will be worried. But if he is concerned about how you cut the slices it is more to do with waste management & budgeting.

  8. So funny a story. My hubby used to be like this but heven is improving . I am the generous one and he is the stingy one.

At the beginning of our relationship I did not notice because I hardly asked him for things. My parents catered for all my needs and I did not see the need to be a burden to a man. When we got married, I saw this side of him but it did not affect me because as long as he is paying the rent and kids school fees, I am good. When we go out and I see he refuses to buy snacks when we go to the cinema, I over buy sef for both of us.Sometimes I take him out when he complains that going out is wasting money. When he sees how much I spend without batting my eyes he adjusts. Apart from this stingy trait, he has so many good attributes. A good side to his stingy trait is that his savings his huge and we are always embarking on new projects. His negotiating skill (thanks to his stingy trait) is so good. I am thankful for this man.

YES, I LOVE MY STINGY HUSBAND LIKE THAT. I would still choose him over again to a generous man. We complement each other.

This woman never loved her husband.

    2. @Anon 19:00, pray tell, how am I married to myself? I thank God everyday that I am married to his type because if he is like me, we won't have savings. He would have spent his money on designers, perfumes, expensive wristwatches, exotic cars and what have you. He is prudent in his spending.

God is my witness, on my husband's savings we have built a beautiful 4bedroom, houses we rent out, a land which has great prospects of bringing millions for us. Our kids go to a private school. So how am I married to my self. He does not neglect his duties and he does not ask me for money. The only issue is that he is just too calculative when it comes to spending and funny enough I like it just like that. If I was not working, I know we would have had issues but thank God I am working. Which is why it's important for women to work. It saves marriages from having issues. The Egyptian woman, I bet she is not working. If she was working, my God what is there in buying common snacksfor yourself if your hubby refuses.

    1) Those stingy to their family but generous to outsiders.
    2) Those who are stingy to outsiders but generous to family.
    3) Those who are stingy to everyone. They're just stingy.

  13. Annon 19:00, how is she being married to herself? At least she mentioned he has adjusted a bit and also has many good sides.
So she should throw away 80% goodness, because of 20% bad?
No man or woman comes in a perfect complete package. We only pray that the good in a person outweighs and makes his/her bad almost insignificant.

    3. Anon 7:18 and 10:07, you are both dumb women. If you check the time of both comments, you will see that she was not the one who replied herself. Besides if he builds the house in his name, it is still to her advantage, she gets to live in it and enjoy it plus her kids inherit it. She seems to have her money which is why it's not an issue to her . You women should go and find jobs and stop depending on men because na your toto go suffer am.

  14. Reminds me of my ex husband. My ex husband would take me to the movies and refuse to buy pop corn because it’s expensive. He would prefer we watch a movie at home rather than go out. During winter I would be freezing cold but he would refuse to put on the heater. He would rather go to Walmart and buy a small heater that barely heats up the room and I would have to suffer, sitting very close to the heater just to warm my self up. There were times when we went out and he would refuse to buy anything because according to him the $8 drink was not worth it. Grocery money a week $30 and this was for two adults... meaning we had $15 each to our selves.... that $0.14 of food a day... sometimes I would have to supplement by adding my money just so that I can feed well. We quarreled and fought over anything financial because I was not used to living such a life of lack. I can go on and on about how I was abused even physically and not just financially. I’m glad he’s in my past now. Never again shall I be with a man who doesn’t have the spirit of giving and spending

  18. If a woman is not working she will feel the pains of His husband stinginess. Stingy husband is terrible. He can't even give her money to start up a business and take care of herself. Tell me reason the woman has to stay when she cant enjoy the basic things she needs even as a new couple. Torture!
