NAN reports that Akarewan, a commercial motorcyclist, was said to have been killed for refusing to give N50 to two policemen at a check point. The two policemen, John Aghaulor and Igodi Gbefamoghan, had already been dismissed from the Nigeria Police.
Justice Abdu Dogo, in his judgement, held that the victim’s life was unlawfully terminated contrary to Section 33 of the Nigerian Constitution. According to him, the section of the constitution allows anybody who has interest in the existence of person whose life was taken unlawfully to seek redress in court of jurisdiction.
“This money must be paid within 30 days of the judgement,” Dogo held.

ReplyDeleteNice one. They should be doing this. Not only to dismiss them as if their dismissal will bring back the dead but to serve as a lesson to other trigger-happy policemen.
ReplyDeleteNice one. I will suggest the NPF reorientate their officers coz most of them seems to have forgotten their duties. Its a pity.
