NAFDAC DG Adeyeye Says Nigerian Lawmakers Threatened Her For Refusing To Give Them Bribe...

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed some ‘abnormalities’ she has experienced during her time on the job.

According to her when she assumed her role as NAFDAC DG, some House of Representatives members demanded bribes from her and even threatened her upon refusing to concede to their demand.

“When I came to NAFDAC, there were a lot of things that were wrong. Take oversight function or whatever that is done, I was shocked when I was told to give money, I said money for what? … money to the committee that visited us. The Health Care Services Committee of the House of Representatives,” she said on Friday during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily.

Adeyeye further stated that the request from the federal lawmakers came at a time the agency was ‘bleeding profusely’ from a paucity of funds.

Beyond shocking, she described the day as the worst day of her life as ‘a chief regulator.’

“I said I cannot. For just the visit? I couldn’t believe my ears because it saddens me. Yes, it can be referred to as them asking for a bribe. It saddens me. This is an organisation that was bleeding profusely.

“It wasn’t taken well at all. I was threatened and I couldn’t believe that too, you are threatening me?” she stated.

    1. Hey, even in Dora Akunyili's time, it was done. I worked in Abuja in a federal parastatal for about 15 years before I relocated abroad. All those house committees on this and that na money dem dey take collect from all those organizations, they don't oversee anything, their clerk will call you before the visit and straightaway tell you to prepare the brown envelope. Those people are thieves, no be today dem start that's why they will even kill to get there because they make money from different avenues.

  7. Una never she shomtin, that's how they DEMAND for bribes from all the federal government agencies. This is allocation that is due these Organisations and you see them demanding for àbout 75% of the allocation. So, how would these Organisations now work? Nigeria I hail, evil everywhere.

  8. The terrible greed, impunity, arrogance of power and abuse of office of these legislooters is totally out of control, this is the same way they wanted money from Colonel Hammed Ali, the CG of the Nigerian Customs. This is the same way they accepted bribes from MTN and other foreign companies and allow those ones to treat Nigerian consumers like trash without any checks and balances. Evil people that have never seen wealth before. Their primary focus is self-interest and not national interest. One day will be one day from all of them.

  9. When a so-called anti corruption fight is openly biased, one-sided and based on nepotism and double-standard, impunity like this will be inevitable. Mr Integrity and his crew of deceivers think they are fighting corruption when they themselves are surrounded everywhere by corruption. Weak, nepotic, ineffective and archaic style of leadership cannot match the firepower already entrenched in the corrupt system.

  11. Senators demanding bribe is one of the most serious crimes that can be committed against a country by a public official because it goes directly to the foundation of public trust, governance accountability and transparency of that country, the president of south korea was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for crimes that are not even as serious as demanding bribe, but here in Nigeria it is normal, the clueless government hardly knows any better.
