APGA National Chairman Victor Oye Loses Daughter To Typhoid And Malaria...

Ozonkpu Victor Oye, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has lost his last daughter, Mrs. Chineye Amaechi.

This was made known in a terse statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Saturday night by the APGA New Media Group.

The statement stated that Chineye died on Friday afternoon, at about 2pm at a private hospital in Lekki, Lagos, after she was allegedly diagnosed with typhoid and malaria.

It hinted that her death might have arisen from misdiagnosis, which, according to a source, did not take her medical history into account.

The statement also disclosed that her remains had been deposited at a morgue in Lagos, pending when burial plans are put in place.

According to the statement, “The late Chineye Amaechi, is survived by her husband, a set of twins, parents and immediate siblings.”

  8. I treat my 3 yo boy and 1 yo girl for typhoid and malaria every month, ever since my son had a convulsion ocassioned by severe malaria a year ago. I was ignorant, careless and overworked because my girl was still very young then. He wouldn't eat and he was running temperature. I thought, when he's tired, he will eat. Till he slumped one night when I was bathing him and started convulsing. I saw heaven and hell those minutes. I wanted to die. It took neighbours to revive him with palm kernel oil and prayer. Since then, I don't joke with malaria. It may be 'commonplace' but is as deadly as HIV/AIDS.
may her soul RIP and may God send dedicated helpers to her children. Kai.
A good hospital in Nigeria will first check for malaria once you're sick or treat it alongside the other ailment. Even if u were sick of something else, the presence of Malaria worsens everything.
Let's take our health seriously pls

    1. Anon, thank God your son made it. Fever in kids is not a joke. It may also be an infection and not malaria so invest in thermometers for your kids and if they start feeling unwell, monitor their temperature and try to keep it normal by giving them Calpol,Tylenol and other pain relivers for kids. You can get them from any big pharmacy like healthplus etc. Anything above 103degF means, head to the hospital (Some would say to head to hospital once it's above 100degF) I use degF so convert to degC if that is better for you. There has been different stories about palm kernel during convulsion. You were lucky but please don't advice anyone to do this. When children have convulsion, they are placed on their side and their airway is sucked with a tube (at the hospital) to keep it free and avoid choking. So forcing anything down their throat is dangerous. Also stop the monthly drug abuse. Do you take them for a test before giving them this montly dose of malaria drugs? All you are doing is feeding their system with drugs and once their system becomes used to the drug, it will become ineffective in actually tackling malaria when they do have it. Invest in other preventive measures like ensuring that your mosquito nets on your windows and most frequently opened door is in top shape. Buy individual mosquito nets for the beds if people always leave the doors open against your instruction. Avoid cluster in your home where mosquitos can hide. Spray mosquito killer throughout the whole house at least once a month when everyone will be away from the house for hours. I found a mosquito killer made in Brazil at Shoprite which is more expensive than most out there but very effective IMO. I believe it is better to pay higher and achieve desired result than to empty a can of 500 naira spray and have mosquitos singing in my ear same night. Parenthood is not easy and I wish you the very best on this journey.

    2. Malaria can only be confirmed by a proper lab diagnosis. DO NOT TREAT FOR MALARIA WITHOUT A PROPER LAB CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS!
There is such a thing as drug poisoning, if you're giving your children medication for ailments they do not have you're pumping them full of drugs their bodies do not need. Stop this immediately, you can be contributing to the shut down of their liver and other organs.

A good hospital will run diagnostic testing based on the symptoms you are presenting and treat you for what has been confirmed positive. Please if you're going to a hospital and they ALWAYS treat you for malaria, you're not going to a decent hospital, find a better one.

We do not have enough good medical facilities and the numbers of doctors in Nigeria is thinning daily but we too have to help ourselves by not playing doctor too.

May this beautiful woman rest in peace, may God give her family comfort for this senseless death

    4. Madam u r killing/destroying and if not damaged ur kids LIVER. Plssssssssssssssss. Take them to hospital to check there internal organs. Even adults can’t take anti malaria every month. Ha. Jesus. Child of how old u have been killing with typhoid drugs.
This time no b only convolution and slum. God forbid. U will watch him quench if u don’t stop DRUG ABUSING UR KIDS.

    5. @friend... It would be cheaper if your children sleep under treated mosquito net. I have been doing this for the past 7 years and I have not had any cause to be loading them with doses of malaria monthly.

Pls stop damaging their liver unintentionally.

  9. Let me also say this under this post. If you're having your baby abroad, pls arrange to give him bcg vaccination there before u come back. The thing is, bcg is for tuberculosis. They don't commonly have tb there, so they dont give the vaccination at birth. It's in sub-Saharan Africa that it's common. So, they don't know and won't tell u. If u have a baby in Nigeria, less than a week after, you're supposed to come back for bcg immunisation. As a first time mum, u go there and have a baby and start coming back like that inside an 'airtight' plane with different types of people, and start celebrating and forget, ur baby May catch tb if you expose them to certain people or environments. It's airborne. Pls don't forget and tell others too.

  10. Wait, are you saying you diagnosed your son with malaria by yourself? And based on that, you're loading the system of your children with drugs that they don't need? You're treating a 3yo and a 1yo for malaria and typhoid EVERY MONTH? If anyone is diagnosed with malaria and typhoid every month, it points to a more serious ailment that hasn't been diagnosed. So, I find it difficult to believe that ANY right-thinking doctor will let you pump your children with drugs for no just cause as you've been doing monthly. May you not put your children in a terrible position - from liver failure to even becoming resistant to medication they might need later.

    1. I tell you!!

First of all, malaria is endemic so finding it in your blood does not mean you have active disease. There has to be a level of presence before you NEED to be treated.
Secondly, typhoid is not common as these lab people have made it out to be.
Thanks to my husband who educated me. I am AA and used to do that ‘malaria wants to kill me thing’ every 3 months. Well, turns out it was just stress as I have not treated malaria in more than 7 years.

Stop using roadside ‘labs’ and hospitals where they take pleasure in diagnosing malaria and typhoid so they can finish your money every month

  16. Most big hospitals in Nigeria are filled with Quack doctors. That's I was diagnosed of Malaria+1 & I was about 4weeks pregnant. The stupid Doctor gave me quine tablet 300mg, to be taken 2tabs 3times daily.
Long story short, 4weeks later I went for Scan & they said I have missed abortion (no fetal movement etc)that my baby will be evacuated.
What this deadbeat of doctors are doing to poor patients eh.
    My God pass them

    1. Twelve years ago I was pregnant and I’ll ad went to the hospital and was given 3 doses of camoquine by a young doctor. Told my dad because my husband didn’t know anything. My dad said I shouldn’t use it and contacted an elderly family doctor who shouted and said I shouldn’t. If I had used it I would have lost the pregnancy. Please be sure the hospitals u are going to have experienced doctors
