DeleteIf you and I showed up in that simple dress, with natural hair and plain looked 3 inch heels, they would not take pictures with smiles or stick out tongues. A typical Nigerian socialite will only associate with anyone wearing Loubs and LV and Gucci (even if its fake!!).
I hope Chimamanda does not really think they 'love' her and avoid all these Nigerian 'celebs'. They love what her name/reputation brings to the table and are seeking a place to eat with, especially as she has global recognition. I really hope she doesn't bond tightly with any of them and maintains her distance and I'm not even happy she's rubbing shoulders with them. She should be familiar from a distance, before they mess her up with their gum-body.
Go and ask the Nigerian/UK Youtuber Jennyjenkins who felt they were her people and started frequenting Lagos. Eventually, all they wanted was her London connects. She has respected herself now and reduced all that association now.
Any wise Nigerian who has gained recognition abroad, is extra careful when mingling with Nigerians socialites back home. Because even the ones you think are rich, are packaging and waiting to feast on your own connections.

And what is wrong with linking people up? I do it and expect nothing in return. Some form best buddies and I keep it moving. I was even told not to accept certain people's invite in LinkedIn because they go through your contacts and connect with....which i think is ridiculous. If you present yourself well and someone in my network gives you an opportunity, why not?
