Media Gurl Stephanie Coker Reveals She Had Her Baby Via IVF

Media personality, Stephanie Coker-Aderinokin sat with Betty Irabor to share her IVF journey to conception on the later show on YouTube.

In 2017, Coker got married to a businessman Olumide Aderinokun in Mykonos, Greece, on August 12, 2017 and in November, 2019, they welcomed their first child, a girl.

Coker on the show revealed that she had her baby through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

She said she agreed with her husband to undergo IVF after her doctor gave her several options and then detailed all the procedures involved in getting IVF. She also spoke about her family’s reaction to news that she was planning to undergo IVF.

She explained that IVF is “stressful because of the amount of injections involved.”

Coker said she had to inject herself daily in order to stimulate ovulation.

She explained: “I was injecting myself first in the stomach every day… every 12 hours..

“I was injecting like a stimulant, like for ovulation and you have to mix it yourself. So, I’ve got the liquid form, it’s like a powder and then you mix it.
After that, I had to take a trigger shot for the egg retrieval which is where it all kind of went a bit bunkers.

I woke up the morning of the egg retrieval, which is when they want to take the eggs out to mix with the sperm and I was just so heavy. My stomach was full of fluid. I couldn’t stand up.

She said when she arrived at the clinic, the doctors asked her why her stomach was bloated and then realised that she had been taking the wrong trigger shot.

She said that “human error ended up being life-threatening” and she was “bedridden, throwing up blood and couldn’t walk.”

She noted that she was confined to a wheelchair and needed help getting around.

Fortunately, she finally got through that.

The next step was the embryo production, and then the embryo transfer after which the woman waits to find out if she’s pregnant or not.

Stephanie explained that she was fortunate that hers worked after only one cycle, adding that some women go through four or more cycles before they get pregnant.

She also spoke of a moment where she had a miscarriage scare. Fortunately, she pulled through and her baby was born in November 2019.

She said her experience taught her that “you can’t always plan everything. I literally planned my life like, I’ll get married by this time and I’ll get pregnant… because I actually wanted to give birth by when I was 30, so I gave birth when I was 31… Sometimes, life actually happens and it will teach you that you need to be very grateful.”

    1. If the trigger shot was wrong how did it now work?

Normally, the shots make some people feel bloated(I felt same). But some hospitals use cheaper drugs to the reaction is worse.

Thank God it turned out well.

  2. Nice to read one that tells about life
journeys and not the lies most Naija "celebs" spill on social media.
Hope others hoping to walk same path will be encouraged to know that,
    there are challenges.
Once it comes to marriage and kids,
the creator is the only one that gives that and none else.

  6. Dealing with fertility issues is one of the toughest things that people, couples, go through. In an African setting, is it the abuse, the accusations, provocations, ridicule, the lack of empathy towards your plight?

Then for those who can afford modern science treatments; is it the medication and excess hormonal side effects, blood clots, edema, swollen tummy, irregular heart beat, the ones who cannot produce eggs no matter what, the man whose sperm has a very short lifespan or is not even producing sperm? Then the fertilization process, then implantation & when it refuses to implant..?
When you walk down that path, that's when you will fully comprehend that, las las na God hold the winning card. Even the most experienced fertility experts will tell you same.

    1. Use Google to search for fertility clinic in your location or go to anyone you know. Ivf doesn't have a fixed price. Each clinic charges differently. Ivf is also not a guarantee for multiple and ivf does not equal pregnancy.

In all, stop allowing your husband put you under pressure.

    2. Go to fertility clinics to make enquiries. You can Google them. Get phone numbers, emails or physically go there and ask questions. I know it costs btw 800k and 4m depending on the hospital.

    3. The cost is around 3 million naira but if you can negotiate well it may come down to 2.5Million..It is a 50-50 chance however Nothing is impossible with God

    8. Since you don't have problem with conceiving, see a gynaecologist and you'd be placed on a clomid treatment, that way you can have multiple pregnancy, you don't need IVF. But if you see like five at once, don't come back with Chronicles oh.
