They really need to do something fast about this. The discrimination no be small thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good one! However it shouldn't stop there..The Senate along with the Minister of Education and Minister of Labour and Employment should come up with policies and procedures that will be ratified in Labour Act 2004 and the Nigerian Constitution with punitive measures to stop employers from discriminating polytechnic graduates from employement.
DeleteIf they give a strong body language to the employers, then discrimination will stop...The Ministers have to be intentional about this...This is what the Minister of Education; Labour and Productivity should be actively lobbying with the house of assemblies for effective implementation and execution...
But again, we need to stop putting politicians in Ministries but technocrats and professionals who have the passion to change these two important portfolios aforementioned...
Good one Phoenix. They need to revamp the Labour Laws esp when it comes to foreign owned companies in Nigeria.
DeleteThe discrimination is worse than this...trust me. Lebanese and Chinese employers have racist policies considering they are based here.
Indians are no better but how can a govt allow an only Indian school to operate in Nigeria without employing a single Nigerian.
They can't try that in ghana.
There are lot of laws that no longer apply in this clime that needs to be amended.
Unfortunately , we keep having illiterates in power.
It will still be there amongst employers. They should just abolish polytechnics, upgrade the diplomas.
ReplyDeleteSimple.
DeleteNo need to abolish polytechnics..They are very much needed..What we Nigerians need to do is to stop discriminating what we don't have full knowledge of...We even discriminate those who lost their pinky finger....These polytechnics can help to create solutions to solve our local problems...
DeletePolytechnic graduates are more hands on and practical..When I become an employer of labour, I give more preference to them than university graduates...
Thank you
DeletePraise the Lord!!!! This is commendable. There should also bring out law that will prosecute those who won't adhere to this..
ReplyDeleteBut how will u choose an intelligent poly student that knows what to do over a dullard uni student all bcos of Certificate, some organizations are very funny..
It should be intellectuality over certificate be u a poly or uni graduate.
Very commendable
Delete@Gift that's why some of these organizations don't experience the growth they crave for. Wise organizations rush poly graduates if not for anything but their multiple job experiences (siwes plus one year IT again).
DeleteGetting the right person for the job is what is ideal especially in this economy lol
Good one
ReplyDeleteAbout time.
ReplyDeleteKaren
The passing is long overdue. I pray it is adhere to.
ReplyDeleteThere is no discrimination anywhere, what about discrimination between a brilliant 3rd class back holder and a dull 2.2 holder that sorted to graduate with 2.2, what about the discrimination between those that have foreign degrees to those that have Nigerian degrees. Please y'all should stop all these perceived discrimination that is causing division among all because there are good companies that don't discriminate and hire and promote based on one's intellect as there are company's that discriminate. Enough said. A word is enough for the wise.
ReplyDelete@10:42 Are you threatened in anyway? Why all these para? Or are you working in an organization where there are competent poly graduates who are being denied promotion and you fear this bill may shoot them much higher than you which is something you wouldn't like? I think thats your case Cos every one knows poly graduates are being discriminated. BTW, im not even a poly graduate. Didn't school here sef
Delete@anon 10:42 You even ended with "a word is enough for the wise" like seriously? E no correlate na
DeleteIf you don’t give the institutions the same status, they can’t have the same degrees. If they don’t have the same degrees, it’s moot convincing people they are same!
ReplyDeleteWhatever rocks their boat. Na today them begin yan this.
ReplyDeleteIt doesnot matter which school you went to or degree you have, just pray for God's favour.
ReplyDeleteI am an HND graduate and by God's grace and Mercy,I have a job and God is faithful to me since I graduated 2011.Btw,I am the only polytechnic graduate in my family.
I am proud to be one as I intend advancing forward in my course of study.
In all this, One needs to Pray for God's Grace. I am an HND holder and even when I tell people they refuse to believe, it is funny how they argue I am not. By God's Grace, I found myself in a company where my years of experience and skill is valued, I am the highest paid employee and even have 80% of the BSc holders earn max of 100k and I am on a salary of over 350k and heading the full business of the company, That is GRACE. I am not proud but I thank God for where and how he brought me this far from the start up salary at my first work place of 70K and this company happens to be my 3rd workplace, WHAT GOD CANNOT DO DOES NOT EXIST, that is all I know.
