Pastor David Ibiyeomie Advises Men Who Say Their Wives Cannot Cook

During Sunday Church Service, Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries during sermon said some men who always accuse their wives of not being good cooks, do not understand love.

He said..

“When you hear a man say that my wife does not know how to cook, he is yet to understand love. Let me be very raw with you.

“Hire somebody to teach her and it is not even compulsory that she cooks for you, can’t you get a chef? It is your poverty that is disturbing you.

“I told my wife to stop cooking. I told her that God has blessed me to a point that you will never enter kitchen. Where did you hear that a woman must cook till she dies.

“Just be angry with your poverty. You employ a chef. If you can’t afford that yet, work around teaching her and stop spreading her weakness all around.

“No one is perfect. The scripture calls the women weaker vessels, it means men are the weak ones. There can’t be weaker if there is no weak,”

    1. Cooking is a life skill. Like swimming, reading and writing, driving, basic first aid, hygiene.

The pastor that is preaching himself should also know how to cook. Not everyone needs domestic staff nor can afford one. Suggesting a man hires a cook to teach his wife is still reiterating that kitchen is still her place.

Make a better attempt at sounding woke next time.

    2. I agree that everyone should be able to make a decent meal for the family but would you rather watch the TV while your hubby do the cooking or he teaches you how to cook and assist when he can?

  2. Again, a so called "Pastor" has finished making points without a single
Scripture to support his stance. Let me give you one "Pastor Rich"
Proverbs 31:15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. NIV
    And CEV says
She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family and for her servants.

So the VIRTUOUS WOMAN actually prepares breakfast for her whole household including her servants?

    2. **** the Pastor did not say the wife MUST NOT cook.If the husband can afford a Chef, it would take much pressure off the wife otherwise, he could get someone to teach her.

Cooking is a basic skill for both man and woman.

Remember that women of the old days were homemakers who worked from home. Today's women work 9 to 5 jobs alongside keeping the home front in order.

There is no way a woman would cook all the days of her active life. Some mothers stop cooking and delegate once their children are between 15 and 18 years old.

There is a whole lot more Proverbs 31 said about a virtuous woman. ALL WOMEN cannot fit into all those capacities.

E.g. Cloth weaving, trading, clothes-making, travelling to far off land to get their foods, buying land etc.

Let every husband encourage his wife to carve a niche in her area of strength and improve on her weakness.

Some men insist that they won't eat any food in the house, if it's not their wives that cooked it and this can put the woman under pressure to cook even if she is unwell or indisposed.

  16. In our traditional and cultural settings women are taught how to cook by their mothers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. If your mother failed you please learn how to cook on your own . Yes, it is right to teach males how to cook, my mother took the pains to ensure I could cook at a very early age. She kept telling me. I don't have a son that his wife will kill with hunger. No chef can cook my food and that of my children, it will never happen. I have a wife who enjoys cooking. I know men of extreme wealth whose wives cooks for them , my eldest brother is one of them. Poverty kee you.

  30. Before you say anything or misunderstand what’s spoken, ensure you heard the complete sermon.

This message was targeted at curtailing the excessive fights in a home by applying wisdom

“If your wife can’t cook don’t go about finding faults and telling anyone that cares to listen”

“Calmly draw her attention to her fault, employ a chef or send her to a culinary school if you can”

We know this truth and understand this is how it should be done but other than acknowledging that this is the message being passed we’ll choose to misunderstand it and get angry over the truth we know

    Una doh oh!

  36. Anon 15.54, I wonder if any man would be pained by this excerpt from the Preacher's message. The take-away positive in the excerpt is "balance" - Husband and wife, do what pays you both the most. Simple.

A man's ability or decision to cook or not has nothing to do with wealth or poverty.

Abraham in the Bible was a wealthy man by his world standards. He supervised the preparation of a meal for angelic visitors and waited on them - Genesis 18 v. 1 - 8.

Cooking by a man has nothing to do with lack of manliness. Esau was a man's man. Isaac asked Esau to make him the tasty dish Isaac was fond of - Genesis 27 v 3- 4 (If Esau was not a good cook, Isaac would have asked him to hunt and bring the game for Rebekah to prepare).

Cooking has nothing to do with spirituality. The "sons" of the prophets cooked. Read about Elisha's miracle in - 2 Kings 4 v. 38 - 41.

Cooking by mostly women came from the division of labour during the agrarian/hunting stage of mankind's development. Today, that division has been blurred but the after effect still remains in that in most societies, men are still on the average higher income earners. So, it pays GENERALLY for the men to focus on income earning or on improving their income earning capacity than on chores and cooking.

I just wonder why the Preacher did not mention that women who now go out to earn as much as or higher than their husbands should hire or contribute to the hiring of the chefs to cook for their families? Well, I concede that the passage quoted here is an excerpt.

In today's world, I know a man whose children miss his absence from home because he cooks better and tastier than their mother.

There are men who bear all of their family financial needs and who still cook at home in addition to other domestic chores.

In fact, some wives would be shocked to find that their husbands cook better than them. Those men are afraid that once they let their wives know they can cook or start cooking, their wives would abandon the kitchen not for any other productive engagement, but simply because they know the husband can cook. I know a man whose wife does this. She knows her husband can cook and do cook. So most times she just lounge and let him get up from his income earning work (as a worker-at-home) to prepare food for himself or the both of them. So should the man go hire a chef to cook for him as advised by the Preacher.

And of all the women hailing the Preacher or this message, how many of you are teaching your sons how to go to the market to buy foodstuffs and how to cook. I go to different types of markets regularly. It is a rarity to see women with their teenager sons haggling over and buying foodstuffs together. I see only about 2-3 mother/son for every 50 mother/daughter in the market.

What some women are not teaching their teenage sons, they want their husbands to do just to prove a point or to be assured of something in their marriage.

As said by ****, it would be better if our Preachers base their messages on the BIBLE.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Just to cook something to eat is now war. Nawa o! Personally I see cooking as an art. Two things I enjoy doing--cooking and washing clothes. I am not doing it to help wifey. I do it because I enjoy it. But if wifey begins to drag things we should do for ourselves to lead normal life, she has a chance to move out and live by herself. I am not in marriage to compete but for use to complement each other. There are things she is good at that I may not be and vice versa. Life no be competition a beg. I cannot be competing with people outside and come back to my home to start another competition.
