  2. Anon 21:13, I don’t know why you think Sunny Ade, Onyeka, Obey are NOT known outside Africa but I heard they don’t teach history in k-12 schools in Nigeria again. Here is some facts for you.
“ King Sunny Ade is one of the 1st African pop musicians to gain international success, one of the most influential musicians of all time”. He WAS the first GRAMMY nominee from Nigeria. He has been nominated twice for the Grammy Awards for two different albums. He was nominated for the Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording for the album "Syncro System" in 1984 and Best World Music Album for "ODU" in 1999”.

Sunny used a gold Roll Royce in London as at 1994 and filled halls to capacity with sold out concerts way before your current “goats” and “legends”! He did duets with Stevie Wonder, Onyeka Onwenu (my favorite song for birth/population control back then “ if you love me you will wait for me”)

Onyeka Onwenu attended Wellesley College, the same school Hillary Clinton attended. From 1984 when she released her 1st album recorded in London, featuring a track "Masterplan" written by close friend Tyna Onwudiwe to her 1986 “One Love keep us together”, and her collab with Sunny Ade on the track "Madawolohun (Let Them Say)" , "Choices" and "Wait For Me" - centered on family planning, Onyeka is a legend & role model. Onwenu's final release dedicated to Winnie Mandela during apartheid South Africa, was performed LIVE when Nelson Mandela & his wife visited Nigeria in 1990 following his release from prison…

I could go on about Ebenezer Obey who sang hits from 1964 till the Osun inauguration as an 82 year old so you can understand why these folks are not in the same category as the current musicians at all.

Christy Essien Igbokwe who was both an actor & musician is another legend and of course Fela Kuti the well known one.

This generation throws around words like “goat, legend” etc without understanding the depth of the meaning. Not teaching history in schools up to k-12 will do so much harm to Nigeria that it will create generations of partially educated people who are usually the loudest & most opinionated on SM! Google is a good resource, I encourage every young person to use it to teach themselves history.
