Minister Of Power Adelabu Says Nigeria Needs $10bn Yearly For 20 Years To Achieve Stable Power Supply

Nigeria's Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu spoke at the inauguration of a 2.5 megawatt solar hybrid power project at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State and emphasized that Nigeria needs $10 billion annually for 20 years to achieve a stable electricity supply.

He attributed the power sector's infrastructure gap, accumulated over 60 years, to inadequate maintenance, insufficient investment, and inability to upgrade transmission grids.

The minister noted that President Bola Tinubu's administration is working to address the challenges, including through the signing of the energy bill into law, which decentralizes the power sector and empowers states to play a role in generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity.

  4. I don't believe these public office leaders anymore. 10billion dollars yearly for what exactly? What and what will you use the $10b annually for? Until you list out what the monies will be used for yearly before I will take you serious. All of them just generate figures from no where because they know the public don't compare the cost of what they used the monies for to confirm if the expenditures are worth it

  6. Before addressing the entire grid, focus on stabilising it in at least one city or state first. Start in phases. Give us a tangible working blueprint, something we can see with our own eyes and experience firsthand, and can be studied and replicated elsewhere when you leave, so there’s continuity. Until then, this is all just noise!
