ReplyDeleteOur children are faced with an uncertain future in Nigeria - one that neither guarantees their education, health or even wealth. However, we hope and believe that things will eventually get better, and that they will experience a much improved Nigeria, than what we are currently faced with.
May God bless our children. May He grant us Grace to give them the best. May we not mourn them. And may they make us proud!

Last night during my meditation, I came across Genesis 31:7, where Jacob tells his wives that their father, Laban, changed his wages ten times. This same Laban had also deceived Jacob by giving him Leah as a wife instead of Rachel. This same Laban's sister who is Jacob’s mother had earlier conspired with Jacob to deceive her husband, Isaac, so that Jacob would receive the blessing meant for Esau. This made me realize that both good and bad habits often run in families. They are inherited patterns passed down, sometimes unknowingly to children.

Both Laban and him sis be fraud be that. Family matters. Like the babe I wrote about yesterday, her mother is the influence. Na church leader but lack godly behaviour. Person wey fit do anything for money. And you know what I have always said, when they can't function actively again, they push their kids into it, to go get the money for them. You'd be surprised how many mothers are pushing their sons to fraud and their daughters to prostittution.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to my childhood days with all the knowledge I knew now, I would have corrected alot of things. But life goes on...

ReplyDelete1. COMMUNITY: The top most predictor of teenage delinquency in children is their association. Surround your children with people who reflect the value you want to see in them.
2. TIME and ATTENTION: My dear, be present. You see that money that you are chasing because "they don't really know anything now nah"; by the time you find it and want to settle things, I mean, you want to come back to become present parents, they would have found support system in other places, thereby making and reducing you to just a stranger that pays bills.
3. ENCOURAGEMENT: I know you may not have received this from your parents, but please let your children hear from you very often that you believe in them.
Correction must be followed by encouragement. It helps to build confidence.
4. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: Please ensure that your love isn't conditional. When your children know that they are loved genuinely without conditions, they feel secure enough to take risks and to pursue their dreams, because "safety nets" are available. That assurance of "I can always go back home".
The earlier they know these, the better their chances of success.

ReplyDeleteYesterday I saw that video where the mother of a four year old was confronting the school management for beating her 4yr old child because she pooed on her body.
The school rep was so rude and proud, talking about their cleaners being stressed as a result of the frequent visits to the loo by the children and how they had announced on assembly that every child should poo in home before coming to school.. So the child was scared of voicing out when nature came calling thereby doing it on her body. They now gave her serious beating.
I was furious. How do you control when a toddler poo's? What is the job of the cleaners and assistants? Maybe the job those ones do is bigger than the meagre salary they receive, thereby making them to complain or two people are doing the job of 5 people.
I believe it's either the child's parent normally owes school fees or she is just dense that is why she kept her cool.
She should have showed them shege and then withdraw the child from that school immediately. What sort of nonsense was that?
