The gale of defections in the House of Representatives continued on Thursday as seven members from Akwa Ibom State announced their defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Among those who defected included six from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the Young Progressives Party (YPP).




Security forces, comprising troops of the Nigerian Military and operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested three suspects who allegedly masterminded the kidnapping of the NDLEA Commander in Anambra State. The suspects, who are currently in the troops’ custody, undergoing interrogation, were nabbed on June 26 when the security operatives raided the residence of some identified suspected kidnappers.

Tragedy struck on Thursday as a three-storey building collapsed at 2/4 Asesi Lane, Sasi Lane (SASI Palace), off Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos Island, leaving at least four people rescued while an unspecified number are feared trapped. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around midday amid light rainfall. The exact cause of the collapse had not been determined as of press time.

 In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, more than 20 people have reportedly been killed in a terrorist attack on Kwalajiya Village, located in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attack, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, has left the entire community in shock and mourning.

 Gunmen on Wednesday attacked some mourners in the Rim community of Plateau State and amputated one of the youths. It was gathered on Thursday that the mourners were returning from a burial in the neighbouring Bachit community when the gunmen, who blocked the road, shot at them and amputated one of the victims.

 The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Federal Capital Territory, will any moment from now, call off the three-month primary school teachers’ strike, following the intervention of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Chief of Staff to the minister, Mr Chidi Amadi disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, after a closed-door meeting with the Area Council Chairmen, leadership of the NUT, and representatives of the FCT Administration.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has vowed to serve for only one term in office if he gets the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Amaechi stated this while making an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

The ruling All Progressives Congress has described the opposition coalition leaders of the African Democratic Congress as selfish egotistical individuals for whom power and patronage are the oxygen on which their lives depend. National Publicity Secretary of the governing party, Felix Morka, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday noted the leaders paraded by the coalition are nothing but “a roll call of Nigeria’s me-or-nothing politicians.”

9. Bayelsa High Court Judge, Justice E.G.Umokoro has regained freedom after 12 days in captivity. He was allegedly released from the kidnappers’ den without payment of ransom. It was learnt the kidnappers demanded the equivalent of N300m in foreign currency for his release

10. Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai is dead. The 61-year-old died in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025 following a prolonged illness that had kept him away from the public in recent years. Widely celebrated as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers, Rufai enjoyed a distinguished career with clubs such as Stationery Stores and Go Ahead Eagles.

Abducted serving judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, has regained his freedom after spending 12 days in captivity.
It was gathered that Justice Omukoro was kidnapped on the evening of Saturday, 21st June 2025, at Kilimanjaro Eatery, opposite Ekeki Park, shortly after returning from a trip to Warri, Delta State.
Though he was released on Thursday, further details surrounding the conditions of his freedom remain sketchy

  3. Life indeed is transient . Rip Legendary Peter Rufai. One of Nigeria's Finest goal saver. Growing up, remebered I used to Crush on him. May God grant the family fortitude to bear this loss ... Amen.
