Ogbonna, who was only 22 at the time of his arrest in 1999 purchased the generator from Segun Ajibade, unaware it was stolen. He later resold it but weeks later, Ajibade returned with the Police , claiming the generator is a stolen one.
Their release was secured by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti
In an audio recording, Oladeji revealed that he was arrested on October 30th 1999, after a generator, allegedly stolen by someone else was brought to his workshop for repairs. He was subjected to severe beatings and forced to sign a statement indicting him.
Despite swearing to his innocence, he was arraigned in court in 2003 alongside three others and convicted of theft.
Meanwhile, Ajibade, the main culprit who actually sold the generator reportedly walked free in July 2016 after receiving a pardon from the then Ogun State Governor.
In an emotional online video, he was seen reuniting with his aged mother, who held on to him tightly in disbelief.

Sometimes, I wonder how many more innocent people are paying for prices they know nothing about.
