Man Accused Of Generator Theft Regains Freedom After 26 Years On Death Row

26 years!!!!
He came out and reunited with his aged mum who was in shock seeing him...

A Nigerian man identified as Ogbonna Igbojionu, aged 48, has regained his freedom after 26 years on death row at the KiriKiri Maximum security prison. He was released alongside Kolawole Oladeji who only repaired the generator.

Ogbonna, who was only 22 at the time of his arrest in 1999 purchased the generator from Segun Ajibade, unaware it was stolen. He later resold it but weeks later, Ajibade returned with the Police , claiming the generator is a stolen one.

Their release was secured by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti

In an audio recording, Oladeji revealed that he was arrested on October 30th 1999, after a generator, allegedly stolen by someone else was brought to his workshop for repairs. He was subjected to severe beatings and forced to sign a statement indicting him.

Despite swearing to his innocence, he was arraigned in court in 2003 alongside three others and convicted of theft.
On January 14 2003, the court sentenced him to death by hanging.

Meanwhile, Ajibade, the main culprit who actually sold the generator reportedly walked free in July 2016 after receiving a pardon from the then Ogun State Governor.

In an emotional online video, he was seen reuniting with his aged mother, who held on to him tightly in disbelief.

  2. Ha! God have mercy.
Everyday you wake up as a citizen of this country, remember to pray that Nigeria never happens to you.
26 years wasted just like that!
    Sentenced to death? SMH
Oh! look at the frail old woman. Probably would have been dealing with the fate of her innocent son all along.

I hope he gets compensated at least.

Sometimes, I wonder how many more innocent people are paying for prices they know nothing about.

The actual thieves are up there and not even a stone has been thrown at them. This country is not fair to live in.

  8. If they explain the atrocious acts of the Nigeria judiciary to you, you will become dumb. How could someone who sold the generator free but the person who bought it was kept in prison for 26 years. Who is the judge that placed him on death row??

Political class that stole the wealth of generations unborn are given a slap in the wrist kind of judgment.
