EFCC Chairman Reveals 100 Senior Lawyers Are Being Tried For Corruption

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has revealed that about 100 senior lawyers are currently facing trial for corruption-related offences.


Speaking at the Body of Benchers’ annual lecture in Abuja, he expressed concern over the rising involvement of lawyers in financial crimes, including diversion of clients’ funds and aiding money laundering.

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee also presented its 2025 report, showing that 17 lawyers were sanctioned for misconduct. Penalties ranged from suspension to being struck off the roll.
Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, and current CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, stressed the need for discipline, ethics, and professionalism to restore public trust in the legal profession.
